"Monte Carlo": I Love The Title Of This Movie
Beautiful Joan Collins Played "Katrina Petrovna", A Russian Singer Who Was Playing "Mata Hari" For The British Intelligence And Almost Got Herself Executed For Espionage. "Katrina" Got Involved With Spying When Her Beloved Husband Who Was MI6, Got Gunned Down. She Used Her Beauty And Charm To Obtain Secrets Which She Would Pass Along Via Photographs. One Night When She Was Out With An Italian General, Played By Actor "Philip Madoc", "Harry Price" (George Hamilton) Is Overwhelmed At The Sight Of Her. Then One Day While He Is In His Car He Passes Her On Her Bicycle, Heading In The Opposite Direction. It Was A Good Thing He Turned Around, Because She Was Just About In Hot Water When She Got Busted Taking Photos Of The Ships In The Bay. She Pretended That She Did Not Understand French, Though Her Character Supposedly Could Speak Several Languages. "Harry" Rescued Her By Telling The Officer In French That She Was Taking Photos For A Couple Named "Sam And Marilyn" Back In Cincinnati And Weaseled Her Out Of The Situation By Asking Her To Give Him The Camera To Get The Officer To Take A Photo Of Them. "Harry" Was Curious About "Katrina" But He Couldn't Get Any Straight Answers Out Of Her. And Since She Wouldn't See Him Socially, That Really Got His Curiosity Up. "Katrina" Was Busy Trying To Keep The Memory Of Her Dead Husband Alive By Spying Against The Nazi's. (Did Anyone Miss Peter Holmes Brief Moment In This Movie When His Character Gets Gunned Down And Katrina Jumps Into The Water?) Her Duty Was To Hang Out With People Whom She Had No Love For. When He Points Out To Her What She Was Doing, She Lit Into Him, Letting Him Know Under No Circumstances Was She Interested In Anyone Who Was Just Out For A Good Time. She Then Tries To Hurry Home Because She Usually Gets Her Transmitted Messages At Midnight. In The Meantime She Didn't Know It But There Were Plans To Bomb The Beach Club Where Some Major Gestapo Agents Were Gathering Socially. At That Point All Of The Major Characters Were Then Gathered At The Beach Club And While Everyone Is Drinking, Dancing And Having A Good Time, The Beach Club Is Attacked And Just About Half Of Everybody Is Gunned Down, Including The General Whom "Katrina" Had Been "Seeing" Socially. The Attack Brought "Harry" And "Katrina" Closer, No Doubt Because They Were Both Nearly Killed. "Katrina" Is Soon Accused Of Espionage, Thanks To A Neighbor's Child's Kite Getting Caught On The Roof Of The Villa Where She Is Living In Monte Carlo. One Of The Servants Discovers The Transmitter When He Retrieves The Kite For The Child And Takes It To "Major Pabst". "Major Pabst" And His Goon "Gunther", Then Goes Looking For "Katrina" And Finds Her With "Harry". Her Cover Begins To Unravel When She Is Arrested For Espionage, Which "Harry", At First, Don't Believe. Though He Was Held And Questioned, He Was Allowed To Leave. Eventually He Hooks Up With Some Of "Katrina's" Friends, Who Helps Her To Escape. But Their Trouble Isn't Over Yet Because She Doesn't Have Her Papers And They Have To Crash The Border Gate In Order To Make It To The Plane. Luckily They Make It, However "Harry" Has To Leave Behind The Car That Was Given To Him By The Wealthy Divorcee "Evelyn McIntyre" (Lauren Hutton). And They Then Fly Off Into The Wild Blue Yonder. The End. I Loved The Music On The Soundtrack Of This Movie. But There Is A Little Goof In This Movie. When "Harry" Was Trying To Figure Out How To Get "Katrina" Out Of The Fortress He Is Visited By A Woman Posing As A Maid, Who Were Friends Of The People Whom "Katrina" Were Working With. Well, She Made It Quite Clear Why She Was There With A Gun Pointed At "Harry", As She Referred To Him As "Fraulein". "Fraulein" Is Feminine. Whoever Wrote The Script Should Have Known That. And Couldn't They Have Come Up With A Better Color Than Red For The Walls In The Club? The Thing That I Would Have Wanted For This Movie Would Have Been For It To Have More Going On In Part II. It Was A Little Weak In Comparison To Part I. All In All I Love Looking At This Movie Because The Scenery Is So Beautiful. It Makes One Want To Go And Book A Flight To "Monte Carlo".

Good Action, Over the Top Acting and Fabulous Locations
5 stars if you really like "over the top" acting. Lots of fun, with Joan Collins and George Hamilton at their soapy, smarmy best in this spy drama. If you liked the 1980's "Movie Of The Week" extravaganzas, this is for you. Plus great on location shots of Monte Carlo interiors and gorgeous outside photography. If this is not your cup of tea it would be a 3 star movie.

This film induces sleep.
There's probably a good reason MONTE CARLO didn't have the success of SINS--it's not as good. Joan Collins looks lovely and her wardrobe is beautiful, but i found this to be a very boring film. Olive Films has also released SINS on dvd. I highly recommend SINS--it's a delicious escape--much better plot, better acting, better fashion, better location, more Stars. I grew up in the 80s, and i loved watching mini-series, but i never saw MONTE CARLO till now. It almost put me to sleep--the boring pace, bad acting. I felt this could have been condensed into one 2-hour film. SINS, on the other hand, is one of my favorite 80s miniseries, and i'm so happy it's finally been released on dvd here in the States. This is just my opinion, but if you're wondering which is better, i recommend SINS--it's juicy fun!

Boring!
Being a big fan of "Dynasty", especially Joan Collins' portrayal of Alexis, I was really looking forward to watching "Monte Carlo". After watching about an hour I had enough and turned it off - it is simply too boring!"Monte Carlo" was broadcast in November 1986 and was based on a spy thriller written by Stephen Sheppard three years earlier. But there is nothing thrilling about the miniseries - the costumes are wonderful, but the pacing and the dialogue is boring. The actors do their best but it cannot lift this miniseries above what it is: Mediocre. As for the star herself, Joan Collins seems bored. There's none of the sizzling excitement she provided in "Dynasty" in her confrontations with John Forsythe, Linda Evans, Heather Locklear, Diahann Carroll and her other co-stars.My advice would be: Don't waste your money!

Monte Carlo. Starring Joan Collins & George Hamilton.
I first saw this mini-series in the 1980's. The story is set in World War 11, and is taken from the novel by British writerStephen Shepherd. I think George Hamilton was mis-cast here, he is more at home doing light-comedy roles.Joan Collins was the Executive Producer of this film, and Collins had spent many years in Hollywood, mixing with the..Movers,Shakers and Deal Makers. So hard to see why she was unable to get a more convincing actor for the Hamilton role. The story is very good and Joan Collins is very convincing in her role here, a very watchable actress, who is always at the top of her game. This series did not take off, on first release, never able to give a definite reason for this. Seeing it now, if you like Second World War stories, set in France, and you like to watch 'Our Joani' Joan Collins (and lots of people do) this is a good buy.

For Collins fans only
Yes I sort of enjoyed this, but really its for a Joan Collins fan only. Its a little tacky and very 80s even though set in the 40s. But I love Joanie so wasn't a problem.
