This product does no harm just gives an unpleasant sensation when breathed in!! I live out in the country and walking is my favorite pastime/therapy!! The only problem, several farms I pass have dogs loose and their job is to sound the alarm and then deter trespassers!! Well I am not trespassing, just passing by on my merry way, but one farm in particular has a pack of hounds that like to bark on my heels till I’m well past, so this little pistol is just perfect to let them know they best not get too close to my heels!! This works great, it will make whatever gets hit with it slobber an drull for about 30-45 minutes. Thats about how long it took a smartass to finally stop crying why'd would you do that to me. And it barely misted him. It was a warning shot beside him an just a couple of drops hit him an he was under water for awhile. Overall it works well an accurate, i would suggest if you ever have to use one replace the cartridge. It's better to have something an not need it an to need something an not have it.

I am very impressed with two things about this item. First, the volume of spray is very good which should help to cover the target quickly without the need to be accurate on the initial trigger pull. The volume of chemical spray is much greater than other pepper spray products that I have purchased. Practicing with the water spray in a closed area sprayed at a wall, the stream has measured 15 ft with plenty of distance remaining. I estimate a full 20 ft of chemical spay is very achievable. If I'm judging the distance accurately, the amount of safety is greatly improved over other sprays that offer 10 to 12' and a very thin stream of irritant which, in turn, requires quicker reaction and accuracy in a stressful situation. Something to think about however, is that this sprayer looks like a firearm which may elicit a quicker response from the "bad guy" who may choose to react quicker than planned using a real firearm without hesitation. A smaller self defense sprayer attached to your keychain may not be noticed at first and may give you adequate defense initially when needed.

As others have written, these canisters don't have the black tip that is absolutely essential for their type 1 handgun to function. The illustrated instructions show the tips and say to keep them on for the type 1 gun but to remove them for use in the type 2 handgun. This is totally absurd. Why would you send out a product that won't function without a part that you can't get anywhere else. A good reason to go with another brand. I would have given it no stars if that option were available.

I bought one of these Mace pepper guns about a year ago hoping I would never have to use it. A couple months ago I was attacked by a crazed man in my driveway. After defending myself with my hands the man persisted to keep attacking me. That's when I remembered my Mace gun. I grabbed it from inside. When he tried to attack again I suprized him with a blast to his face. He instantly stopped in his tracks. Then ran searching for water. Now I keep it handy on the wall of my shop. This is a very effective pepper gun.
