I really wasn't sure WHAT to expect when I ordered this chess set for my daughter's Christmas Present, but the construction on this is GORGEOUS. (I even bought the set as "used" not thinking that I would get a quality piece, but nope, when I opened it and saw that it was practically brand new, I was beside myself!) The board had no scuff marks, and the 2 hinges set flat on the table, the boards aligned perfectly, the chess pieces had perfect felt bottoms. It was amazing.I did have to rearrange the pieces inside so that the set would close correctly with the extra queens, but that is hardly a complaint. I am VERY happy. This was extremely affordable, I still can't believe I got such a nice set for only $25!

Amazing product!I travel around with it a lot to play against friends and family, and to have outings to coffee shops and libraries to play, and it works great!The board is well made, it lines up perfectly in the middle with no big gap and the wood is not warped at all. The pieces themselves are great and sturdy, while looking quite cool, and the padding on the bottom has stayed on well.My only minor gripe is the adjustable string inside the board that holds the pieces in travel, is extremely loose in some places, and I always open the board up with a few pieces rolling around. It's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have them all tight and elastic-y, instead of one long string woven underneath the fabric.Would definitely get this for any beginner or expert chess player! It's a great bang for your buck!

Fantastic chess set! not the epidemy of perfection mind you, but better than any set from Walmart or Target!A few key things I noticed:- the board's lacquer finish was pretty smooth, allowing the peices to move nicely.- the lacquer finish on each of pieces feels really nice and each piece feels solid.- the peices are pretty easy to knock over, but that's because they're not weighted.- the board will slide around a bit during setup and play, so i put a little bit of hot glue on each of the corners and smoothed it over, making 4 nice rubbery spots that keeps the board anchored.- the wood quality is amazing for this price! coupled with how portable it is makes this board excellent for traveling.Overall, I'm super impressed with the quality that this price range brings. Any negatives experienced by others are from factory defects, rough shipping, or because they're expectations are too high : )It just feels nice to play with something better than plastic, cardboard, and paper : P

This set is really good for the price. I wont call it very high quality wooden set. But it is pretty good. The board is flat folding without any openings or gaps. The coins fit inside the board box perfectly. You receive extra queen for each color. They email you the e-book for learning the game if you are new to chess. The coins are cut very nicely and kids can differentiate between each piece correctly. The entire set is quite light in weight and you can easily carry or even the kids can easily carry without dropping around. Overall the set is good. I would definitely recommend!!

I am very happy with this chess set. It reminds me the set that I had when I was little, and it is so much better than any plastic sets. I also appreciate the electronic guide that I received by e-mail from the seller. I purchased the set to teach my daughter to play and needed some reminders on the game rules and terminology. My daughter was very pleased with the set and is eager to learn how to play now. Chess is a great game that develops logic and memory in a way as no other game can do, and it is a sport for the brain too. And having a nice wooden set adds a lot of pleasure to the game.So, I highly recommend this set to anyone interested in the game .

Decent quality with a couple of minor aesthetic imperfections that don’t affect its utility. Nowadays even inexpensive items are usually made very well so the old adage “..you get what you paid for..” is mostly obsolete these days unless you’re finding something at a dollar store. So even the slight imperfections were a little disappointing although they also are easily overlooked.

This is a classic foldable wooden chess set where the pieces are stored inside the case made out of the chess board. It has the bonus of having felt and elastic loops to protect and hold the pieces in place. It further has extra queens, which I have never seen before in a chess set. The board and pieces are well designed and manufactured. There are more exotic (and expensive) chess sets available, but if you want a nice, storable and transportable set for playing, this is a good choice.

My kids have recently gotten very interested in chess and my existing chess set had a fixed board, big heavy pieces and we have no place to leave it out.This is a perfect set to take out play a few rounds and safely tuck it away in your game closet. The inside has elastic straps for all the pieces so nothing is rattling around during transportation.Board is solidly build and sits squarely on any flat surface. Great set for the price.
