The New Artist's Manual: The Complete Guide to Painting and Drawing Materials and Techniques

The gives me great ideas for which materials to use for future Art projects.

This book covers just about everything, but is more informative on mediums other than oil painting. But it does give helpful tips that I had used previously, without realizing it was a standard technique used by fellow artists, but now I see why I've used them! For somebody that wants to do everything from the ground up, including making their own oil paint, then this is the book to own! Provides more instructional guidance than most other books I've seen/bought. Better artist's examples and more professional results with more advanced instructions than most other publications.

This is one of the only textbooks from college that I kept. The other one is a rocks and gem stones identification manual. Anyway, back to this book- it's a great reference for types of paint and mediums. I found out that I'm more of a watercolor person than a oil paint perosn, and my copy lives on my desk where I can grab it for a quick read when I need a refresher .

Sadly, I've had to return this book to the seller, Powell Books as it had a page torn from the center which the seller was unaware of I'm sure. What deeply impressed me was the wonderful service provided by Powell Books. They immediately and graciously refunded in full with me having to return the product. I decided to order this book when my painting professor mentioned it in class. I was blown away by the amount of information this book offers, it's definitely something I will continue to refer to when I have a question about media, technique or if I'm just curious about something. I received the book well ahead of the expected delivery date and I recommended it to my classmates and friends.

This is an amazing art manual. I don't know why I didn't realize that I already had it, because it is the manual I used for my drawing class, and then my painting teacher had it as the required manual too, so I ordered it again. I don't need 2 copies, but it is a phenomenal text.

Fabulous resource. As complete a course of study as I want. Instruction for materials and their use and then on into painting all conceivable subject matter in your choice of media. Heavy in encouragement of your own creativity and expression. I love the format of this book, easy to navigate around in. Huge and generous volume of work, much gratitude to author and publisher; great value.

This book is packed full of great information for painters and artists. A great buy!

Very informative and a must have bible for artists new to art techniques and those established. There is enough in this book for anyone to learn something new.
