Aladdin Equipment 750 Skimmer No-Niche

I was looking for a floating skimmer for my inground pool because one niche skimmer was not enough. I have a vacuum line for bottom cleaning and I thought I could use that to connect the 750. Well, this product is not exactly made for the problem I needed solving, but I wasn't sure from the advertising. You should understand that this IS NOT a free-floating skimmer. The base must be fixed to something like a bracket or a rigid pipe. With some modification is was able to fashion a stand for mine to sit on the steps where it does a good job of skimming when connected to the wall vacuum via flexible hose. I was lucky because that's just where I needed the extra skimming anyway. I had to use a 1-1/2in. threaded elbow and heavy weights inside the 750 plus a brick to keep it from wandering off the step and falling into deeper water. I can still use the flexible hose to vacuum the bottom because the connection to the 750 is loose and is held by vacuum pressure alone. Unfortunately, when the pump goes off at night the vacuum connection is broken and my hose floats away. Yet I still may be able to solve that problem too.

The skimmer works fine, especially with a sock inserted to catch finer floating debris. The problem is that you're taking a chance with what you're getting. I ordered two of these, in spite of the wrong photo (of a blue skimmer basket). When the two arrived in separate shipments, I discovered one was (correctly) the no-niche skimmer in the description, but the other was the incorrectly-pictured basket. Product label said it was Aladdin's B-190 basket, selling for a whopping $103 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NJIZQ2/ref=crt_ewc_img_huc_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3LJLMXXW7B35D). I returned the basket, explaining the error. Picture still hasn't been corrected, and presumably, neither has inventory. Grrrr.

Replaced an eight year old skimmer identical to this. Amazon was the only place I was able to locate one. Skimmer works well, price was fair, and delivery was on schedule.

My dog loves to eat the skimmer on his way to the stairs. This is my 5th one. Works great in older swimming pools. I wish it was chew proof.
