I am a Dog Trainer...I have an 8 year old and a 2.5 year old border collies that get along very well with each other. And Yes.. even as a trainer.. My 2.5 year old is fear reactive towards other dogs, and I wasn't able to bring my foster's into the same room with my 2.5 year old or take her places on account of her reactions towards other dogs and sometimes people, this never stopped me from trying to socialize her more and help her cope. I recently adopted another puppy hoping to start out with a younger dog to work on training her to be less reactive. When I took my puppy to the vet for her shots, I discussed with my vet about putting my 2.5 year old on Prozac to help with coping and training. Which I was not to keen on a mind altering drug such a Prozac. My Vet told me about Zylkene and that it is non-prescription, non mind altering and is a natural supplement that contains the same ingredients as mother's milk. Which has a calming effect on dogs. She recommended it for dogs with separation anxiety, fear of thunderstorms and anxiety with car rides etc... So I purchased a bottle from my vet and gave 1 capsule to my 2.5 year old BC. By evening my husband is calling me to see the 2.5 year old and my 12 week old romping, jumping and playing with each other in the yard. I was ecstatic... and almost in tears... she has been on them for 2 weeks every morning with her meals along with training. Her and my puppy or the best of buddies, non-stop playing, sleeping together, and sharing toys. My recent foster was so nervous on car rides and I had to take her to 2 meet and greets. Getting her in and out of the car was a battle. So I decided to try one on her. She did amazing, jumping in and out of the car on her own, no shaking, panting or whining. Dogs that are scared in a car will not take treats and actually eat them. She was mooching as many treats from me as she could, and eating them. I told the Foster group that I work with about Zylkene, and several of them have purchased this product to use during transporting from rescue to foster homes or when we transport fosters to their new homes. I am recommending this to client's, rescues, and friends for their own dogs. This works really well and along with proper training, this does not have to be a life long supplement for your dog.

I’ve use this product on my last 3 German Shepherds with great results. It really takes the edge off and my dogs have been so much happier on it. They listen better and mine was relaxed getting his nails trimmed at the vet yesterday. I was thrilled! Some days I also use calming treats in addition to the Zylkene if I need my almost 1 year old to settle down around company. It’s all about using layers of calming supplements. It all depends on your dog’s anxiety level. Worth the cost for peace of mind!

Zylkene capsules seem to be working really well, my dog is nervous anytime we go out of her comfort zone of our house or car. I give one of these capsules with her breakfast every morning, and it does seem to help all day. It is made to feed as a supplement, and there is no vet prescription needed. It is a little on the expensive side for a Calming aid for you pet, but if it helps, it is well worth every penny. My vet told me about it, so thought is was worth the try. It does seem to calm my dogs nerves!

This is highly expensive and it did absolutely nothing with my dog. I have a 3 year old Golden Retriever who suffers from bad anxiety, especially when it comes to leash reactivity, separation anxiety and barking to any noise coming from outside the house. I have tried Adaptil, Solliquin and Rescue Remedy. The Adaptil worked very good on the barking to noises but only the first one or two months, the stopped working. I had to stop using it because it was making him very territorial in the house. It went back to normal after I stopped it. The Solliquin helped a little bit with the separation anxiety the first two or three months, but only a little bit and especially if I gave it to him with some bach flowers too. The Back flowers are amazing, is the only thing I’ve tried that really works for his separation anxiety. I have to give him the drops 1 or 2 hours before leaving. It also works very well to avoid barking at outside noises. The leash reactivity is the only issue when the drops are simple not enough. Still working on that one. The reason I don’t use it more regularly is because it makes him feel sleepy and I don’t like to make him feel like that every day, I wouldn’t like it if you ask me! The Zylkene was recommended by his trainer and his vet, so we decided to give it a try even though it is extremely expensive. Well, it did nothing! Zero! He’s been taking it for a month now and I don’t see even a tiny improvement. Plus. I’ve been checking the price on this item during this whole month he has been taking it and the price changes almost every day! I don’t know why they do that but it is definitely not serious.
