Q: How much weight will the storage compartment hold? Looking for something to store/conceal a large cooler which could get heavy when filled.

Sorry, did not see that this was a weight question. The slats across the bottom are not particularly thick or strong. I use my wood box for chair pillows. I would not imagine that I could stand on the bottom. However given that you can only put a 15 by 15 dimension cooler, Im sure it would hold that weight when filled with ice.

Q: where was this manufactured?

The box it came in says "made in Vietnam." I bought it because the company was based in Texas and I wanted to buy American made. Not so much.

Q: What tools are needed to assemble

Allen wrench which comes with it. Easy to assemble. Layout parts separate and go by directions using the Allen wrench. It was very easy for my husband to put together.

Q: Is this waterproof & will everything in it stay dry in heavy rain?

I saw the "color" stated as TEAK which confused me cuz when I first read it? Didn't notice it was a COLOR? Thought it was the type of wood! Then I saw Acacia wood? So I went back & realized Teak was the supposed "color" & NOT the material. Thank you for your review. I will keep searching for a better bench to put on my porch &/or patio.
