This bag is light, strong, and large enough to hold everything for a trip. It's easy to carry as a duffel, and comfortably converts to a backpack with padded, adjustable straps. We bought two Gregory 65 Stash Duffels ("Autumn Rust" and "Dark Olive") for a 10-night African safari involving travel on planes that had a luggage weight limit of just 20kg per traveler (laundry service allows everything to be washed and worn repeatedly) and a rule permitting only soft-sided bags with no wheels.One 65 Stash per person left each of us plenty of extra room given that weight limit. Packing for both of us in just one 65 Stash would have been possible given our limited wardrobe and the bag's huge capacity. Instead, we opted for two half-empty bags because it's easier to carry and stow two light bags than one fuller, heavier backpack.This worked perfectly. Our bags attracted several inquiries and compliments from other travelers who saw how effortlessly we were able to carry everything we'd brought.As a bonus, the duffels looked so insubstantial that we were able to carry them onto long-haul international flights, eliminating any risk of the bags missing a connection when we changed planes.On trip home to the US, with no fear of lost-luggage stranding us with no clothes, we checked the bags. They arrived in perfect condition - and it was easy to spot an orange duffel and a green duffel on the luggage carousel.I highly recommend the Gregory 65 Stash Duffel Bag to anyone going on safari, and anyone who wants a large, strong, light bag that doubles as a backpack.

I won’t be using this bag until the end of October 2017. But right now it seems like it will be perfect as a carry on for a 7 day trip. Seems to be of good quality and it’s pretty lightweight when empty. I personally plan to pack fairly minimally with the help of packing cubes (Gonex brand bought here on Amazon). I kinda did a dry run with the cubes and putting everything in the duffel and wearing it around the house backpack style. Everything fit neatly and it was pretty comfortable. I will report back after my trip as to how the bag held up during the trip**Also a heads up. I purchased the Shadow Black color. The picture makes it look like it’s grey with a black bottom. Be aware that this bag is ALL black in color.**Update-I didn’t actually end up using this bag for my trip but I still stand my statement that it seemed to be of good quality.

great for our trip to Africa and we plan to use it on many more trips! fits alot and, for most airlines on international flights, you may be able to get away with it as a carry on. sturdy and good quality!

I was looking for a duffel bag for a trip to Africa where a rolling-type bag would not work in the dirt and dust. This bag was almost perfect. It held everything I needed for a 9-day safari. It is durable and opens up wide to fill and empty easily. I received many compliments from airport personnel (something I've never experienced with other bags). The only drawback was the handle is actually not centered, making it awkward to carry. I did not use it as a backpack, which is an option, because when you fill a 65-liter bag it gets pretty heavy. I've used it for other short trips and I love it, just wish the handle were in a more balanced position.

I really want to like this bag. I love the autumn rust color. Many other bags only come in black or bright neon colors and this shade is a nice alternative. The bag is a pretty standard shaped duffel with a center zip down the middle, one large inner compartment and a single zippered side pocket on the outside.The straps are padded and I found it comfortable to throw one strap over my shoulder and carry the bag that way. There is also a hand grip with velcro to join the two straps for single-handed carry mode. So far so good, and the bag will convert from one carry style to the next without much fussing around clipping straps on/off etc. The straps are also supposed to work like a backpack -- the feature I'm most looking for in a bag. Unfortunately, the straps have a very limited range of adjustment, and set to the shortest size possible, the straps are still too long for me to carry this as a backpack. At 5'5", I don't feel I'm that short. Sigh.The fabric is very lightweight, and the bag seems like it would hold a lot of stuff, and I like basic idea. But, if it can't be carried like a backpack and I can't figure out a way to shorten the straps, it will need to be returned.I also can't tell if it's water resistant. I don't think so.

Great travel bag, packed a weeks worth of clothing including a pair of shoes and two jackets and was able to carry on to plane. Wear it like a back pack or duffel bag. Awesome.

Just want to start off by saying, this is a terrible design. Can't sinch the sides, they should have sewed the top of backpack straps to the bottom of bag. This bag wants to pull you backwards. Flimsy all around. Buy the black diamond demon duffel if you want a quality bag. Promise I am a legit person and is.not.getting paid. Hope this helps.

This is a RED color and NOT ORANGE as the photos appear, I LOVE the red and am very happy with it. I had a previous Gregory backpack duffle and lost it, but i loved it so much that I needed to buy another. Perfect for weekend trips or a week long humanitarian project in the Guatemalan jungle. Inside has been coated to keep out moisture from brief exposure to rain or splashed on a boat. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the buckles on short ends are now fixed instead of being adjustable as previous bag version. I loved the adjustable aspect because I could stuff a sleeping bag or pillow under this and secure it to increase bag capacity. I will probably sew in a strap because this was so useful
