I have been using this and the first edition for 20 years. There is no other equally authoritative book on the chemistry of cement, and it is impossible to study cement technology in depth without frequent recourse to it. The approach is strictly academic, and, originating as it does largely from university chemical research, its treatment of the practicalities of manufacture is somewhat sparse and occasionally naive. Hopefully, an up-to-date treatment of modern manufacturing - which is rapidly changing - can be added in future editions, without sacrificing the book's commercially independent stance. However, its pronouncements on pure chemistry are highly authoritative and indispensable for high-level work, both in manufacturing and end-use.
