Q: How many pounds of salt are required for initial set-up?

I filled mine up with about 6 bags from Lowe’s.

Q: Does this have container or dispenser for water softener cleaner?

The water softener cleanser should be poured into the brinewell tube ( 4" diameter tube with a cap on top, inside the salt tank). Just pop the cap off and pour the whole 16 ounce bottle of cleanser down the tube every 4 months. Once the cleanser has been added, run a recharge at a time when water wont be used for the next 2-3 hours and then run a cold water faucet downstream from the softener for 15 minutes to ensure everything is rinsed out well.
