Great for Learning to Read
I bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter who started school last September, and is learning to read. I sent her the level one book last year and she started reading it straightaway. I decided to get the second stage when she came to,stay for half term. Julian Donaldson’s stories are tailored to,early readers, and the stories are just as entertaining as her other books. A wonderful way to help first readers.

Great book for kids
This is an bright, fun, easy to read book. It has a 6 different stories in it so you can do a new one each day without it getting repetitive. Each one will last 5-15 minutes, depending on reading speed. Good mixture of harder words. Bright pictures to make them interesting. The stories have to be simple but are interesting enough to keep attention. Just make sure you get the book for the correct level of reading.

Spot on for reception
This book is just perfect for reception children who are learning to read. It covers most phonics in phase 3. The sentences are short and easy to follow for the little ones. I recommend it for end of Autumn term and begin of Spring one. Songbirds were recorded to us by reception teacher and it is just spot on. Although if your child is a fast learner and can coupe with long sentences then Ron Rabbit's Eggs might be better choice. To get a feel for it I recommend to go to Oxford Reading Owl website and have a look at free ebook Ron Rabbit's Eggs.

Perfect Reading Book!
I'd stumbled across Level 1 and found it very good. Small stories, good size of text and good repetition of words - since I've bought level 2 and 3 and find them great for the same reasons. Will continue to purchase these books at higher levels as my daughter finishes each level.

Good resource but not value for money at £8
My review couldn’t be submitted for some reason so I am re-submitting.Overpriced at £8 - education should be affordable so every child can get the right opportunity to exceed in life. If it wasn’t for Covid times, I would have looked to get it from charity shops. This is a good resource though and like everyone has mentioned stories are good and pictures bright and nice.

Best books for anyone learning phonics
Truly a phonics reading book, unlike most of the other Oxford readers which at each stage include too many words that kids of that stage have not yet learned to decode.Somehow, despite limiting the vocabulary in that way, Julia Donaldson has still managed to create stories that are genuinely interesting and engaging for readers!Songbirds is far and away the best reading series I have seen for anyone learning to read by synthetic phonics.

Engaging stories
Wonderful book, perfect for my 5 year old. She has had some trouble with her reading as her school books are a bit boring but these stories are so engaging and fun that she now reads them by herself to her toys and asks to read them to us at bedtime!

Lots of stories within the book worth getting.
I got this today and had a look through it. It's got a good few stories in it and explains how to help with your children's reading. Also let my son have look and he seems happy with it. So will see how it goes.
