Acer USB C SD 4.0 Card Reader - I love that the casing is made of aluminium, looks premium.It can read two cards at the same time: SD, SDXC, SDHC, Micro SD, Micro SDXC, Micro SDHCEasy to use as it is plug and play.Put the lid back when not used to protect the USB C port.

This USB-C SD and micro-SD card reader supports the latest fast format cards. The USB-C interface (as opposed to USB-A) makes it much more useful with modern devices (including smartphones). It has a cover to keep the USB-C plug protected which is very welcome. The Acer branding means that it's quite a bit more expensive than some others out there, but the build quality makes up for this.

I got this card reader to use with a Lexar 64GB UHS-II MicroSD card which doesn’t read that fast in UHS-I card readers (theoretical UHS-I max speed is 104MB/s). The theoretical max speed for a USB-II card is 312MB/s though the best cards currently available don’t quite reach 300MB/s. My Lexar card claims speeds up to 150MB/s, though all Memory forms have communication overheads that eat into that ‘max speed’, not to mention the USB interface overheads.The reader uses the more up to date USB-C connection. It’s a reassuring metal clad reader with a nice gunmetal grey finish. A snug cover cap, also metal clad, protects the USB-C connection when the reader’s not in use. The MicroSD card slots nicely into the slot and doesn’t have one of those pesky recessed click to release type slots, so removal is also easy.To test this reader, I inserted my Lexar UHS-II MicroSD card into the slot and inserted the reader into a 10Gbps USB-C socket on my Windows 10 PC.
