A Very Smart Cat / Una gata muy inteligente (English and Spanish Edition)

I got this book for my niece and she loved it!

Being the grandmother of a multicultural (Armenian/Mexican/American) six year old child, when buying books I tend to veer toward the Spanish/English books. I received this book before Sophie was born in 2008 and began reading it to her prior to the age of 2 and it remains her favorite book. As a matter of fact, she's renamed it: "A Very Sassy Cat"! When she spends the night and when asked to choose a book before bedtime, this book is always her first choice! Very entertaining and keeps the child interested throughout!

Upon reading the title I had no desire to order the book. I, myself, am a dog person, and have very little interest in any material related to cats. Three of my particular favorite children's books which involve animals are Clifford the Big Red Dog, Go Dog Go, and The Phantom Toll Booth. (Along with my recommendation for this book, please make sure to check the aforementioned books out as well.) Thankfully my wife went ahead purchasing the book anyway.Both my kids -I have a daughter who is seven and a son who is five- love the book. Mario Picayo's writing is both clever and insightful, of course, never failing to keep in mind his intended audience (children 4-8), yet still finding a way to humor adults who are more than likely to read the book to children. The art by Yolanda Fundora is fun and quirky; nothing dark or frightening which is more often the case in many of the new children's books such as the collaborations between Neil Gaiman and Dave Mckean. Another wonderful aspect about A Very Smart Cat is the book being bilingual. The book is both in Spanish and English. I find this to be a great learning tool for any child. For English speaking kids, it helps open a window to another culture. Not to digress too much, but corporate book stores need to carry books with such advantages. The book helps broaden a child's mind (especially if they are like my children and only one language is spoken inside the househould)and distinguish it from the rest of the pack. Overall, the book was an unexpected joy. But, be forewarned my fellow dog lovers- after finishing the book my daughter decided that the family must own a cat. The book was well worth the purchase and is a great gift for any child or the reader who loves books for children.

This book is simply adorable. I am buying it for a friend who's daughter loves animals and is bilingual- A plus in both ends. The story has me, a cat lover, laughing out loud. However, it is the illustrations that make this book so special. Each page has details to look at over and over again. The bright colors and bold design will attract all readers, young and old. And as apparent who has had to read the same favorite book over and over, each page is a delight to look at, every time.

I purchased this book at the Cat Gala in Catskill NY for my 3 year old grand daughter Kayla. If you are a cat lover this book is for you whatever your age. I laughed all the way through it. It is written in Spanish and English =)Dot Rosenthal

This bi-lingual book is great fun. The charming text coupled with vibrant and detailed illustrations make it a wonderful book to share along with young readers. The story tickles the imaginative funny bone and each time the reader looks at the pictures there are more things to see! Of course a cat can't really do all those things...or can she?

This book was marvelous. I purchased A Very Smart Cat for my son Jeremiah Laski it was a great. A terrific learning experience. Its so hard to find children's books for this generation. When A Very Smart Cat came around it set a new benchmark for creative storytelling.

This book is just perfect, a rare find. It's very clever story with hilarious illustrations. It's great to read over and over again with your kids because you'll discover something new with each read. It's also fun to read in both languages. I wish there were more books like this out there!
