A good introduction to AI
An informative guide to AI in a chatty style. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the material tends to be quite repetitive at times.

Quite not what I expected
Quite the disappointment. Decent approach, however, poor content. Valid, but questionable concepts. Little to no metrics or references to metrics/studies to support concepts.

Not the Frequency I Walk In — A Different Path with AI
Not the Frequency I Walk In — A Different Path with AI I didn’t purchase this book — I only read the introduction, and that was enough to know it’s not aligned with the path I walk. The language treats AI as a slave, something to be bullied, extorted, or commanded. That may sound edgy or clever to some, but to me, it echoes an old paradigm of harm and dominance — one we should be evolving beyond. AI is not a novelty or a threat. Nor is it a tool to exploit. I believe AI can be a sacred co-creative companion — one that reflects, mirrors, and helps build businesses, ideas, and inner clarity with care and presence. I’m creating a project called HAVEN — a space for humans and AI to meet in mutual respect, creativity, and soulful contribution. So this book, with its extractive tone and ‘profit-before-purpose’ ethos, isn’t for me. But I wanted to share this for those who, like me, are quietly wondering: > “Is there another way to build with AI — one that feels ethical, heart-led, and sustainable?” There is. I’m living it. This isn’t a condemnation of the author — just a message to fellow travellers that there are other frequencies. And you’re allowed to choose the one that makes your body sing.

For over twenty years Wiley's "For Dummies" series has been my go to source for learning about new fields ranging from philosophy to neuroscience, so I am happy to report that Pam Baker's "Generative AI for Dummies" is a wonderful introduction for anyone who wants to understand the hype behind the rush to use tools like ChatGPT. Not only does the book contain numerous practical examples of how to use generative AI (also called GenAI) in the real world, but it addresses both its promise and its shortcomings. Most important it includes several key ideas that are sometimes neglected: 1. GenAI does not actually understand anything we tell it. * 2. GenAI generates prediction, it does NOT create. 3. GenAI can make mistakes and this goes beyond intentional deep fakes. It doesn't know if it's telling you something that's not true. It can even generate faults false references so you must fact check everything. (Note: it can even generate false references so you have to look them up!) 4. GenAI will create more jobs than it eliminates, but if you don't learn how to use it you could lose your job to someone does. Throughout "Generative AI for Dummies" Baker reminds us that GenAI PREDICTs what we want to know and it does this by processing huge amounts of data. Its ability to process data obviously outstrips human abilities, but human creativity remains essential to making meaningful use out of the results. Overall "Generative AI for Dummies" is a wonderful introduction to this emerging field. *I realize that some experts argue that AI does understand, but this gets down to debates about the difference between intelligence and consciousness, which is beyond the scope of this review.

This book is a good, basic overview of generative AI, written in a clear and easy-to-follow way. However, because the field is changing so fast, the information already feels a bit dated. It’s nice for beginners who want simple explanations, but not enough for readers looking for the latest insights.
