Mars great ice. The top hat shape is cool. Works well for cocktail making and serving. You get what you pay for and this is a serious ice machine. Better than KitchenAids that I’ve had before.

We were looking for the best Ice Machine for our Country Home in the mountains of El Valle de Anton in Panamá. In Amazon there are some that cost 200-600 dollars and then there are the Scotsman’s and Hochizakis. We wanted something that fabricated a large clear ice and that was durable and Serviciable with availability to support in years to come. The machine is pricey like 2K plus filter. I was lucky that my sewage was lower than the drain and didn’t have tos use the pump which I bought anyway. I think I’m going to need it because I’m buying another one for my city apartment. The machine makes great ice. The noise is acceptable. It is installed in the kitchen. Now I drink coke and it produces little foam as compared to the dry noisy cubes from the fridge. Simply love it.

So I enjoy the ice maker. Unfortunately the bin sensor is out. The Icemaker thinks the ice bin is full and doesn’t make ice until it’s replaced. Huge pain as finding the correct Plummer to change this out. Apparently a whole batch of faulty bin sensors are out in circulation. So this is a known problem that wasn’t known to me. I look forward to hopefully many years of Ice without any further issues.

Bottom line up front: Too loud for inside a home.More details: Pay attention to all the reviews where they say this is "noisy but makes great ice". I had a Kitchen Aid 18" wide icemaker from 2008 installed in a house I bought a year ago. It bit the dust, and so when I read the reviews of the new Kitchen Aids, they are pretty much considered a piece of junk now. So I did a bunch of research and settled on this Hoshizaki AM-50BAJ model as a replacement. It got a lot of good reviews for quality and durability. I really thought twice, as it is only 15" wide and much deeper than my old Kitchen Aid, which would require me to totally reconfigure my under-counter setup. I ended up pulling the trigger on the Hoshizaki and crossing my fingers.It took me an entire weekend to change around the appliances and modify the cabinets to accept the thinner Hoshizaki. However, nowhere in the Hoshizaki AM-50BAJ specs does it give the sound dB ratings of the unit. This sucker is LOUD. I am very disappointed, because I spent so much time changing everything around for the installation. It is honestly too loud to keep inside my house, and it is beyond 30-day return limit now. So I'm pretty much doomed to ripping this thing back out and moving it to my garage somehow. Buyer beware!
