So far, so good with the highest-end GPD Pocket 4 available. This little machine is a monster, but it's not without its quirks. It has officially turned my trusty GPD Pocket 3 into a backup, and for a power user like me, that's saying something. Here’s my breakdown of the experience. Pros: Insane Raw Power: The performance increase over the GPD Pocket 3 is staggering. Both the CPU and GPU are a massive leap forward, delivering seriously insane raw power for a device this size. With 64GB of RAM, it handles quite literally everything I can throw at it without breaking a sweat. A Godsend for Technicians & Gamers: As a technician's field computer, this device is a dream. The combination of power, portability, and modularity is unmatched. As a micro-gaming device, it’s equally incredible. It's so compact and so overwhelmingly overpowered that it will easily have many years of use—probably a decade, if not longer. Excellent Backwards Compatibility & Modularity: I was thrilled to find that the hot-swappable module bay (which I use for a microSD card slot) is fully backwards compatible with the modules from my GPD Pocket 3. My KVM and serial modules work perfectly, which is a huge plus. Deep Power Customization: The level of control you have is nuts. I can under-volt the system and limit the CPU to 4.2GHz to slowly charge it on a lower-wattage (30W) power brick. When I need full performance, I can unleash the 5.1GHz boost and let the GPU run without throttling. This flexibility is fantastic for managing battery life versus performance on the fly. Thoughtful Display: The built-in screen protector is a great touch. It has a matted, Zagg-like feel which is excellent for anti-glare. While I personally added a tempered glass protector on top for extra peace of mind, the factory screen is high quality and very usable. Cons: Significant Touchscreen Bug (Requires a Technical Workaround): This is the biggest issue. A specific service, the "I2C HID Device Controller," consistently fails when the machine comes out of sleep, hibernate, or system suspension. This disables all touchscreen functionality. No amount of BIOS, firmware, or Windows updates fixed it. My solution was to write a PowerShell script and use Windows Task Scheduler to automatically run a self-repair utility based on Event IDs every time the system wakes up. This is not a fix for the average user. Demanding and Specific Charging Needs: While the device performs best with a 100W (20V/5A) power source, its requirements are much less flexible than the GPD Pocket 3. This forced me to upgrade my charging tech, as few older portable battery packs could meet the demand. However, for those willing to tweak, there is some versatility. If properly tweaked, I can get it to charge on a 45W Anker charging brick at 20V/3A. In an absolute pinch, and if properly throttled, it can even slowly charge on a 30W Anker brick that outputs 20V at 3A or above. Short Battery Life Under Heavy Load: When you unleash its full power, be prepared for a short run time. Depending on the task, I get anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours at best. For average use with my own manual power throttling, I can stretch that to a more reasonable 4-8 hours. Slightly Larger Form Factor: While still incredibly portable, it is noticeably bigger than the GPD Pocket 3. It’s a reasonable trade-off for the massive performance gains, but something to be aware of. Overall Thoughts: All in all, I am quite happy with this machine. It's a rock-solid device, provided you know what you're getting into. The value for money is debatable—I got a great deal on Amazon with an extended Asurion warranty, which gave me better peace of mind than buying direct. This is a device for an enthusiast or a professional who doesn't mind tweaking things to get them perfect. If you decide to buy into this ecosystem, make sure you invest in a proper case to protect your expensive little powerhouse. It's an incredible piece of engineering that has rightfully earned its place as my new daily driver.

I ended up returning because I need a main laptop for work purposes, and this was just a bit too niche for my use cases. However, the package on offer here is outstanding!! The size was perfect, the way features were implemented (2 in 1 hinge, touchscreen, ports, cooling, keyboard, iGPU from the hx370) are darn near perfection!! I have only 3 small gripes. 1. Audio popping and hissing; something really stupid was going on with realtek audio drivers - those things seem to draw frustration wherever they're implemented and they did here too. Seems like speakers need work to avoid that nonsense in Windows AND linux 2. Don't put the removal tag on the screen cover. Honestly, it's a perfect little screen protector. Either that or look into pre-applying a screen protector; because mine had zero bubbles or dust so it just makes sense for a 2 in 1. 3. The system power management software is a bit rough but VERY feature rich. I'm a dev so it didn't put me off too much, but it may be a little intimidating for more casual users. It did work very well however All in all, sad it didn't fit me but super exciting to see where these might be in a few years!

Exactly what I needed and it has exceeded my expectations. Very satisfied, a tool with purpose for work or multi-media use and perfect for traveling ..

I want to like it, but the backspace key sounds different than all the other keys and keeps getting stuck so I have to return it

It's pretty amazing how much power and storage this little thing packs into such a small space! The processor is about as powerful as my M2 Max MacBook Pro, which is saying a lot. Between a 4TB SSD and a 2TB micro SD card you can have 6TB on it. It's also very versatile and has a lot of ports. I've tried other mini laptops and this one is definitely the best I've found. You can in fact fit it in a pocket, but it has to be a big, wide pocket. The screen resolution is insane for being so small and it's super bright. The keyboard, while a bit cramped, is totally usable and backlit. The trackpad is far superior to those tiny little optical mouse nubs on other mini laptops. You can hold the thing like a video game controller and use the mouse with both thumbs in a pinch when you have no desk. You can also flip the screen and hold it like a book, using your thumbs to type on the screen like a cell phone, which is better for general web browsing which you are standing up. A mini mouse and mini mousepad make this thing much more usable for serious work at a desk. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase but I'm taking off one star for several reasons. First of all, the fan is crazy loud. You can get it totally quiet by using the provided Motion Assistant app, but then the unit can get hot unless you limit the TDP which reduces your processing power. You have to crank it pretty far down to 8W TDP to get TDP low enough it doesn't produce too much heat with the fan low enough to be quiet. Then the CPU is pretty limited. Secondly, the system can get a bit unstable at times when pushing it to its limits unless you let the fan run at full speed because it just gets too hot. I've experienced ports and disks not working intermittently when I turn the fan down but don't limit the TDP. Third, the warranty is voided if you open up the unit for any reason, which is really unfortunate because you can upgrade the SSD (but not the RAM). Fourth, battery life is not great at about 4 to 5 hours average and 1 or 2 if you're really pushing the processor and graphics card. By the way, don't try and put a double-sided SSD in this. Although it will fit and work at first, it's not stable in the long run because it will bend the PCB and produces way too much heat. The graphics card is great for older games or simpler games but really struggles with new AAA games like Baldur's Gate III or Elden Ring. Also, despite using a USB-C port to charge it will not charge from most battery banks. You need to feed it a solid 65W of power to get it to charge at all. Despite all of these minor issues, this device beats the pants off an iPad for serious work while traveling requiring a full web browser and a full file system. And it's actually more portable than any iPad other than an iPad Mini because it fits in a pocket and doesn't need a bag. It has about the same dimensions as an iPad Mini but it is three times the thickness. You can use it along with a mouse and mouse pad on an airplane tray table, which to me is much better than being stuck with a trackpad due to lack of space. But the trackpad and touch screen make it easy enough to just hold in your hands. Using it in your lap is a bit awkward because of how small it is. You can get around the battery issue by keeping a couple of 65w power banks handy. You can get around the fan issue by keeping some noise isolating headphones handy. In the end, this thing is the probably best travel companion out there for digital nomads. It's so small and light you don't even need a bag for it. You can literally keep it in your pocket. And it's more than powerful enough for serious video editing, music production or gaming. I take it with me everywhere because it only weighs 1.7 pounds. It's less than half the size and weight of most laptops. It's pretty incredible we live in a time where something this small can be this powerful. I wish Apple would make a laptop like this.

The GPD Pocket 3 is exactly as described. The i7 Processor is very powerful and the Notebook is a high-quality product. As before with my GPD P2, the keyboard is big enough for writing with 10 fingers and it is convenient. I like the option to put the fan on a lower mode, as this makes the notebook very silent. The connections are just brilliant 1 x USB C and 2x A, HDMI and even Ethernet Cable Connection is directly without any adapter possible. The notebook runs with normal workload up to 8h. I am still overwhelmed by the great product. I love it!

I really like it, I think that he really has everything. Is so compact and so quick. Building quality is also god even if is not stable, that is quite strange. Connectivity is super fast. Weight super super light.

I have it since about 2 months now, and i love it! this thing is a work beast. The screen is realy sharp, keyboard comfortable to touch type once you get used to some key position changes. I use it with bluefin linux, except for the fingerprint reader which doesn't have open drivers, every thing worked out of the box on linux. It is good for gaming too, i run Path of Exile 2 and Kingdom come deliverance 2 no problem on it.

Please be aware that the installed Windows 11 operating system has flaws and the updates keep failing. The only way to get this laptop running properly is by reinstalling Windows 11 (use the current Windows restore function and have the OS be downloaded and installed). Then it is ok. This should have been taken care of before selling this laptop. If you don't know what to do this laptop is "basically broken" because the updates do not get installed properly. If you are willing to fix this yourself the laptop is almost perfect. One downside: the laptop does not sit flat on the table. It does not look bend, but one "foot" seems to be too short. I have seen this in different other reviews as well. If you stick something under one foot, it is stable. Again: not perfect. Besides this, the keyboard is much better than I expected. Actually usable, even when you type with 10 fingers. Also the touchpad is good and using the two buttons on the top left is much handier than I thought. Out of the box you easily attach a screen via USB-C or HDMI, have keyboard and mouse installed via bluetooth and then this laptop is really fast. Much faster than actually necessary but a breeze to work with. If the issues described above would be fixed before selling and the price would be a bit lower it would be a perfect small laptop to take with you, especially when going to school or using as sysadmin. Screen is high quality but, as to be expected, small. You need reading glasses when you are a bit older like me. But the size of the screen is good and you get used to it quickly. Bottom line: if you need a do-it-all workhorse laptop that is really small and are willing to overcome the issues and the price, this laptop is one of the best you can buy in its class.
