These traps work really well and you don't smash your fingers
We own 40 acres of juniper out in the middle of nowhere. Deer mice and pack rats are numerous. We have been using the larger version of these same traps for rats and they work really well. Rats are really fussy about what they will eat but mice are not. We use a multi faceted approach for rodents. First, we trim up the junipers to get rid of protection allowing their predators (owls, coyotes, ravens) to get them more easily. We also use 5 gallon homer buckets with the rotating can coated with peanut butter. And we use mechanical traps like these. We do not use poison because it goes up the food chain and rodents recover much faster than predators. With respect to these mouse traps:The Good:1. You get a lot of them for reasonable $2. Bait (I use peanut butter) gets added to the little cup under the trip. The bait cup untwists out the bottom for easy filling and cleaning.3. To set the trap depress the back side of the "smasher" until it clicks and locks into place. After it is cocked keep your fingers away from the trip as they are very sensitive.4. There is a small loop on the side of the trap away from the bait side which you can use to stake the trap to the ground to prevent loosing it. The only times that I have lost traps is during the night when some predator comes along and takes the trap, the rodent and the stake for his late evening meal.5. The traps have enough force to adequately give the rodent his/her celestial discharge6. It is easy to open the trap to get rid of the corpse.7. These are much, much easier to use than the old wood and spring wire traps. I have tried the old style traps and am amazed that the rodents can remove the bait without releasing the trap. Not so with these. The Not so Good: - nothing, these work

They Built a Better Mouse Trap!
These mouse traps are awesome!!! They have a bait cup that you can remove by simply twisting it out of the bottom of the trap. Put a small amount of peanut butter (or the bait of your choice) in the cup, then simply twist it back into the bottom of the trap. No more risking your fingers, trying to balance the little bar to hold the spring loaded wire in place. Simply squeeze the end of the trap, and it locks in the set position. These traps arrived today. I set a couple of them up under my kitchen sink, and within less than an hour I heard a "snap". Went in the kitchen, looked under the sink, and sure enough I got one of the little buggers! Less than an hour! The nice thing that they don't tell you is that these traps are totally reusable. Simply squeeze the clean end of the trap (the end away from where the mouse is), and the dead mouse drops out, and the trap is re-set and ready to go. The bait cut was still basically full since the mouse only got in a lick or two before the trap got him. I dropped the dead mouse directly into a zip-lock bag and sealed it tight. Put the trap back in place, and you're ready to catch another mouse. Seriously, these traps are AMAZING!!! Couldn't be more pleased! Highly recommend!!!

Easy, effective, much safer than others
Bruce K stole my line....obvious, clever and precise! These mouse traps are effective (caught one first night!);easily loaded (simple twist/turn cup for food); simple tosituate (put in place before pressing down plunger); andnot like old school type, less likely to snap off finger (ortoe) when 'setting' and even placing in position. But themost important feature is how easy and 'no-touch' it isto rid/toss the dead mouse; simply pop open like binderclip. I used a zip-lock to drop into, since trash was pickedup the day before (if I knew how effective these were, I'dhave planned better timing) has kept stink to a minimum.Plus they're black, plastic; easier to clean (if necessary) andare (visibly) better hidden at night/in shadows/garage/etc.And I feel better effective than having the product (I usedpeanut butter) 'hidden' as opposed to cheese plopped on aspringboard in full view of the trap. Not an expert on thatanalysis, but first victim/pest caught soon after setting it inplace sells me on them....unlike the ones Dad used when wewere kids and many times found traps with majority of thecheese gone...and NO mouse.** And you get TWELVE for 15 bucks!! That's only $1.25@.

Love The Bait Cup
I don't know where I have been in the last 10 years (or whenever they started making these), but I will never use a wood/metal spring trap again.I had never really even thought about buying a plastic trap, I was happy with my wood plank and metal spring trap. After really looking at these plastic ones, I have done a complete 180 and now will never go back. The removable bait cup is the best thing about this. You deal with the bait cup long before you activate the spring clamp. No worries about your fingers. The plastic is easy (easier) to clean. And before you clean up, you can remove the bait cup. The clamp mechanism is opposite from the clamp jaws. So to release your catch (kill) your hands are not touching the mouse at all. I would still wear rubber gloves, mice are nasty disease carriers. They also say to block off the other 3 sides of the trap so the mice go in head first. I have used small chunks of 2 X 4's and other places used bricks. As long as it's not outdoors and/or windy, probably a couple of cardboard boxes would work also.

Super Easy to Use
During this past winter, with the cold weather, I had a bad infestation of mice in the house. Even though I have since gotten it under control, I got these snap traps to place around the basement in the areas where they were active. Normally I do prefer live traps, but I'm placing these in areas that I do not want to have to monitor them daily. What really surprised me about these snap traps is how easy they are to set. Simply press down on the back lever, and they automatically lock open in the "Set" position. Put a little peanut butter in the removable cup, and they are ready to go.
