Great game! Lots of fun and I love the modern day take on energy and environment! Many pieces and clunky to carry around, though, and it takes a while to set up and explain the nuanced rules.

Honestly this game blows all the other Catan games out of the water. The storage box came with lots of spots for all the different pieces so it’s not just all slapped together in one big box. It’s super fun, game pieces and cards are mint and my family loved playing this over the holiday week!

Catan New Energies brings the classic board game into the 21st century, adding a strong theme around sustainable energy and resource choices. Gameplay remains familiar—settling, trading, building—but the addition of renewable versus fossil fuel decisions adds a timely and strategic layer. It’s engaging, especially in groups who enjoy eco concepts. Components feel good and artwork is colorful. Setup and rules are approachable even for players who’ve never played the original Catan. Most games take about 90 minutes and work well for 3 to 4 players aged 12 and up. What holds it back from 5 stars? The eco-mechanics feel slightly underdeveloped at times—it’s more of a thematic overlay than a fully integrated system. Fuel debates can feel limited after a few rounds and some players in my group missed the deeper trading economy of classic Catan. Overall it’s a fun and fresh take that adds meaningful discussion points and modern relevance to a beloved board game. Well executed and enjoyable—even if the new twist could go deeper.

I've been playing Catan for well over 10 years now and this is by far the expansion that best keeps the spirit of the original Catan intact, while adding new mechanics and gameplay that does not extend runtime or saturate gameplay. This new iteration of Catan forces you to be methodical about when and how much you should expand, with the constant push and pull of wanting to develop while also avoiding the game's penalties for having a high carbon footprint. All in all, a great twist on an old classic.

They just keep coming out with good, solid, editions! This version is a new take on the standard, as it is a modern world with current thoughts and processes. We never get tired of Catan in any format!

This is my stepbrother's new favorite version of catan!

Brilliant version of an already great game. We are keen Catan players and tbh wasn’t expecting much from this but it’s a completely different game not just a add on expansion it’s takes some getting used to but having to think about energies really adds to it. Especially when you have to watch your limits of brown and green to be able to win my lovely husband missed that part steeling the win from me at the end.

Fun game. Our box was missing the inspector and the piece for the index +\- scale though which kind of sucked.

A friend owns the original CATAN which I love, so I bought the Energies version, it didn’t disappoint. Easy to follow after playing the original but different enough for the variety.
