Good while it lasts
The main problem with this product is that it doesn’t stay warm long enough. But that is a problem with all of these masks that I have tried so far. Another problem is that the plastic gets a bit hard after significant use. That’s not much of an issue, though, since the product is still useable.

great for itchy allergy eyes
I bought this for my son to use on his eyes that itch severely from pollen allergies. Because the beads are a soft gel, it is very comfortable to use. It has been great for helping him get through allergy season.

This eye mask has a filled area of only about 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 in. so it is not large enough to cover both eye sockets. The beads barely reach the outside edge of the eyes. Since the small volume of beads doesn’t stay warm or cool for more than a few minutes and the mask takes a long time to refreeze, it's not even good enough for use by small people or children. The elastic band is not adjustable and is only 1/4 in. wide. It is able to hold the mask in place only when I lie still on my back.At this time, the eye mask is not even a good value compared to ones that are larger and have better straps.

Not particularly nice
First, putting sticky plastic on my eyes didn't work well. Second, the volume of beads and shape of the mask didn't allow the beads to cover my entire eye area. Third, the edge molding was uneven, so the beads didn't even cover all of my eyes. It takes hours to freeze and doesn't stay cold very long. This seems cheaply made, with very thin, un-adjustable elastic. Can't recommend.

Therabeads Hot Cold Gel Eye Mask
When I have a headache, I have a rice bag I either heat up or freeze based on my need at that moment. It usually helps, so I thought I would try the Therabeads Hot Cold Gel Eye Mask. The Therabeads eye mask is okay. When I have a headache, I’m very sensitive to touch, so the plastic seam of the mask bugged the bridge of my nose. The mask stayed cold for approximately 30 minutes; I dozed in the middle of testing so I can’t be entirely certain. But I did like that the mask didn’t get wet or slimy feeling as it cooled. And of course, the moveable beads inside the mask molded to my face, so it is comfortable to wear. The elastic strap to hold the mask onto the head seems very flimsy. I’ve seen junky masks with better straps than this one. There’s no way to adjust the length of the strap.I’ve used other Therabeads packs in the past, and over time, they all break and start leaking. I’ll update this review if/when that happens with this eye mask.

Wonderfully warm eye mask
This review is for the EYE MASK with the gel beads. Over the years I've gone through a lot of these but this is the first time I can say 'this one works.'For one thing, I like that the instructions are printed immediately on the product itself. With my other ones the instructions are long gone and I'm not sure how long to put it in the microwave, the freezer, etc.For another thing, the heat lasts a remarkably long time! I put it in the microwave for 12 seconds, and I can see that the liquid that the beads were floating in got a little foamy, so I was concerned that I left it in for too long. Then, the eye mask had hot spots and cold spots, the temperature wasn't consistent. It was natural to play with it a little bit by squishing it around, and in a few seconds the whole thing was at one nice, warm temperature. The one thing I didn't like about it was the smell. It was kind of strong -- the only way I can describe it is that it smelled like a swimming pool. Not bleachy or clorine-y but somehow like a pool. But the heat lasted for a good 15 minutes, which really surprised me. However, instead of taking it off after 20 minutes (as the instructions state) I pushed it up on my forehead and just kept it on. After I while I got a headache so I'm not sure if it was from the smell or the heat. Lesson learned.
