These are sweet little tambourines. The wood hoop part is smooth without any rough edges. The heads are on well with enough tension to give a nice bright sound when you tap. You can tap on different parts of the head near the rim for a more resonant sound or right in the middle for a nice bright "tock tock" sound. What's cool is that, because these are only 4 inches in diameter, I'm able to hold it in the palm of one hand and use my fingers to mute the cymbals if I want to make only the percussive sound by tapping with my other hand. The cymbals sound as you'd expect. This big pack doesn't cost too much and is going to come in handy for the group music classes that I teach and for some protests that I'll be participating at in the community.
