Excellent
I spent a week trying to break up bedrock that was above ground level with an SDS drill, chisel and lump hammer. Painfully slow work and expensive when you factor in the cost of chisel and drill bits. I was about to hire a rock breaker and came across these splitters. I thought I'd give them a go instead of risking my toes and back using a full on rock breaker...These are an absolute game changer. Within a few hours I'd broken up the bedrock (just under a square meter area) I'd been battling for a week. When the rock breaks it gives you nice lumps to dispose of instead of the dust and small fragments I was getting off the SDS.I'm genuinely amazed at how well these work. For £18 it's a no brainer. The shims seem decent quality, I smacked holy hell out of them with a 4lb lump hammer and they don't seem to be marked.Very happy with the purchase!

Great tools for breaking concrete
Bought these to split a large concrete set of steps I had.You do need a 14mm SDS Hammer Drill, not a puny domestic hammer drill. Cleal out the hole with a hoover or similar, then slide out the central wedge and insert the feathers fully into the hole, making sure you line up the wedge with the line of where you want to crack the slab. You need about one evert 3-4 inches I reckon so I ordered 4 (2 packs). They are not as big as the pictures make them look(!)Then tap each one in turn like tightening wheel nuts and gradually apply a harder bang with your lump hammer. After a few sets of blows you can hear it start to very quietly creak then a crack appears and the wedges start to move more easily.Nothing broke or bent and although the drill bit started to wear out a bit after a dozen breaks, the wedges work well. You do need to insert them all the way and also allow about 4-6 inches of concrete between them and the edge otherwise the concrete might break at 45 degrees instead of 90.But if you have a bit of a practice you can get very nice clean breaks in concrete several inches thick.

great shims
these shims have worked great after doing my home work on how to split rocks via youtube. only thing to mention is that the rubber bands that holds the shims to the feathers breaks after approx. 10 uses.would buy again if I required more.

Does the job
Work well. 500kg block of granite split 8 times.

Robust and they work.
Have used these for breaking up both concrete and limestone very successfully. Mine have now had a lot of use demolishing a concrete slab and are showing few signs of wear, the little rubber collars to keep the feathers on each plug are a big help. A far superior product to the plastic ones available. The plastic box they come in isn't up to much and I don't expect it to last long. (FWIW these work well in combination with a 14 mm drill bit.)

Very effective and quick to use.
Bought these wedge and feathers to break up a large sandstone water feature (a good half a ton) that had resisted breaking up with an SDS Makita hammer drill with masonry chisel bit. Received promptly and set aside a Saturday to break up rock into manageable pieces. Started with drilling a few holes to break off a small section (about 1/2 square foot) as a test and was impressed at how quickly it split the rock. Managed to break up entire feature (2 rocks) into 20+ manageable garden rocks in less than an hour. Very impressed (looking forward to finding another job to use them on!)

Perfect for splitting Rocks
Did not think these would work nearly as well as they did, I ended up breaking a lot of rocks using these, although it is time consuming. If you've got too many rocks to break I'd recommend getting a breaker that you rent as although these work well, it takes time to drill the holes, hammer in the wedge and feathers, before repeating in a line. But they definitely do work and even on big rocks, just requires patience and a big sledge hammer.
