First off, this thing is really cool. It's got some weight to it. I have already plotted several routes using protractors and coordinates. Yes the compass works. My only complaint is that the Tan Desert Brown color looking NOTHING like the picture. This is the compass I wanted but they sent me a color that's more of a puke green. No big deal! But that is reason for 4 stars.

One complaint rubber gasket inside compass not the best I seen. I saw a video on YouTube ( Map Reading Company UK) grading 3 compasses. It was a defect he saw on his, that put me on guard. Notice mine is similar. Now for improvements by adding a grommet on viewing lens to keep from scratching plastic cover. Replacing plastic cover w saphflex or sapphire crytal like cover for Seiko watches. Other that military grade good enough for now.

After seeing several sketchy looking listings on Amazon for this product I found this one offered by Cammenga directly (fulfilled by Amazon). Ordered it and received it the next day. I was quite pleased to see that not only was it the real deal (meaning the Tritium version I wanted and NOT just the phosphorescent version) but you can tell from the date code inside the lid that this was manufactured this year. That means the Tritium should glow nice and bright for many years to come. Came with the standard pouch with the metal attachment clip. Very happy having this compass as a backup since the first time I tried to use my Garmin out in the Arizona wilderness it couldn't maintain a signal lock. Never trust technology without a backup!

Last one finally died with 25 years of use. these compasses are sturdy and well made, with good brightness of tritium. Always good to have map and compass and test land navigation skills vs worry about battery operated GPS

Nice compass but very old stock so wonder if luminosity will lasr.
