This particular story helps me understand better the mexican immigrant
I am a big Will Hobbs fan. I am impressed by tbe way be researches his topics and lives the life as .much as he can. This particular story helps me understand better the mexican immigrant. without a lot of political fanfare he looks at a situation with realistic yet compassionate eyes.I gained an appreciation for YA literature as junior high teacher. Butthis is just a darn good story.

YA Adventure
A quick read that put a face to the news of illegal immigrants we have all heard about especially in the recent campaigns. You can't look at it the same no matter which side of the argument you're sitting.Hobbs also retains the voice of a determined teen while we care to peak around the next corner with him. Solid read for young adults.

Informative!
Sometimes it read so much like an adventure book that I forgot (for just a split second) I was reading about the struggles of crossing the US/Mexican border, but overall a wonderful job in detailing the struggles of the socalled "illegal" immigrant just trying to survive and help their family survive.

Crossing the Wire
Will Hobbs is a master at character development and adventure. In Crossing the Wire, he has portrayed not only 15 year old Victor who is involved with risking his life in many ways to get into the United States where he might work and earn money to send back to Mexico, but also depicts a culture of good and deeply caring human beings who struggle with survival daily in a country so poor that their remote village even lacks communication through the mail system. This is a great read for kids and adults alike, with lessons in compassion and appreciation.

Timely and insightful story
Read this book because it was assigned to my son for his summer reading program. What a great story! It should generate lively discussion in his freshman class about immigration. The story of Victor and his friend, Rico, trying to make their way across the boarder is compelling especially given their ages. Hobbs paints a descriptive picture of the Mexican border and their many trials and tribulations....fascinating stuff and definitely recommended.

Gripping story
I began reading this novel for a grad school class assignment. I found it hard to put down. This is a very gripping story of crossing the border illegally. The media never portrays how difficult it is to cross the border. The author eloquently put a face on some people willing to face the dangers of an illegal border crossing.

A view on illegal immigration through a child's eyes.... Amazing!!
Mr. Hobbs has used vivid imagery to recreate this suspenseful , and at times a graphic tale of a 15year old, Mexican boy's illegal trek across the U.S. border. He encounters mules, coyotes, and many helpful yet wise travel companions. He learns about life along his arduous journey as he strives to fulfill his goal to feed his family in Silao, Mexico.

Beautifully written and non-judgemental
Utterly riveting, emotive, thought-provoking. Beautifully written and non-judgemental. At a time when there is talk about 'the wall' between Mexico and the US, this is a powerful novel for children and adults alike.
