This chain is ferromagnetic (it is attracted to a magnet). It stuck to a weak refrigerator magnet. 925 Sterling silver is 92.5% sliver and is not ferromagnetic nor is copper which usually makes up the other 7.5% metal. Nickel and zinc are sometimes used with, or in place of, copper and only nickel is ferromagnetic. This listing claims that the chain is nickel and lead free, as well as hypoallergenic. The listing further states that this chain is plated in 18K white gold. White gold is 75% yellow gold and 25% any of the following metals to make it white: palladium; nickel; silver. Currently, the price per gram of these metals is as follows: palladium $40.24; silver $1.22; nickel $0.014 (1.4 cents). Given the listed price of this chain, which metal(s) do you think this chain is made of? I am severely allergic to nickel...it took about an hour to an hour and a half for my neck to develop a rash. This item is not nickel free. In order for a piece of jewelry to be listed as hypoallergenic, 50% of the population has no allergic reaction to it. Based on other reviews, I suspect that this item is 316L stainless steel, which is ferromagnetic, and thinly plated with 18K white gold containing nickel. Several reviewers even identified that the chain caused their necks to turn green. Copper oxidizes and leaves a very thin coating of oxidized copper on the skin. I am returning this junk back to Amazon and going to a jeweler to buy an actual nickel free/tarnish free silver chain. You get what you pay for...Amazon has turned into a flea market. I'm done.
