Android TV boxes have recently got a bad rep for obvious purposes lol. But I think they still serve a purpose in 2018. The hardware is getting more and more powerful (CPU, GPU & RAM). Our demanding media consumption, needs and expectations are being met with overwhelming choices. In this minefield of indulgence I found this S95x Android 6.0 box by Tictid, or is it “Egolggo”. This box interested me because the form factor was tiny and the hardware specification positioned itself in the sweet spot. In terms of performance, the 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16gb EMMC flash storage & quad-core cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-450 quad-core GPU provided no lag. It was sufficient for my needs. The box was lightweight with a smooth rounded plastic finish. It was slightly larger than my old fashioned wallet (see pic). I would have liked to have seen at least one USB 3.0 port on the device, and WIFI AC, but I can live without those features as I’m not going to be using those anyway. The box handled streaming music and 1080p video from reputable sources like Netflix, Google Play and Youtube) over Ethernet like a champ. In terms of software, with all these Android TV boxes, I find this to be the real achilles heel (uninspiring but functional) but you can change the firmware with a simple flash tool found online (though not for the faint of heart). You could swap out the stock rom for a custom Android TV rom from freaktab.... Good value. Used for video conferencing (needs a camera added), good wifi connection to PC, able to stream x265 files without problems. Very Good value
