Claritin is my go-to allergy medicine for seasonal allergies. It provides effective, all-day relief without making me feel drowsy or groggy. Claritin is great for dogs for the same reason it is great for people. It doesn't make them drowsy. Pugs have terrible seasonal allergies. At the first sign of them smooshing their faces on me or sneezing I start giving them one daily until the second hard frost. They work best when started before symptoms appear so usually I start them in September and stop at Christmas. Check with veterinarian before beginning for accurate dosage based on size, breed and age. My adult 30lb pug takes 10mg and my 15lb pug takes the 5mg Children's chewables. I put them in a tiny bit of cream cheese. They have never shown any side effects like Benadryl does and so much easier being once a day. Just fyi if Claritin isn't effective for your dog Zyrtec works great too and is once a day. There is a new medication for allergies being recommended for dogs named Apoquel but it hastens the growth of mast cell tumors which are common in pugs and other breeds as well. They can go undetected for years and so to me, who has had two pugs with large undetected tumors, I won't use it even though it is a new med for dog allergies. No need to when Claritin works so well for dogs too!

It’s Claritin what can I say. I can’t take some allergy meds due to my heart. These don’t bother me with that. I sometimes think they don’t work so I stopped using them. Pretty soon you realize yes they are working.
