Intriguing
The subtitle of this intriguing book is Haphazard Discoveries, Chance Places, and Unimaginable Destinations. Ready to explore? Start turning the pages.I was drawn into this work right away, simply by looking at the dotted world map. How interesting to see just how widely scattered the finds were. Topics covered include Accidental Discoveries, Strange Roots, Haphazard Destinations, Cavernous Locations, and Serendipitous Spaces. Within each group find things like Vaseline, The Dead Sea Scrolls, Chess City, Uros Floating Islands and the Lascaux Caves; there are so many choices within this title. Each entry is pretty fascinating.Recommended for those with eclectic and inquiring minds. Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.

Unexpected Arm Chair Travels
I enjoyed this arm chair travel book. The author takes you on travels to unexpected places around the world. Included are lots of photographs, maps and a short description about why the place is unexpected. The book is full of interesting information. The writing is good and even humorous in places. This book would make a wonderful gift. Enjoy the travels

A beautiful, fascinating book
Bought as an early birthday present for my brother who has read and enjoyed Prisoners of Geography - but ended up reading it myself! It is a very entertaining and unusual guide to the oddest and most surprising places on the planet. Underground cities I had never heard of like Derinkuyu in Turkey (stumbled upon by a bloke doing work on his basement and large enough to accommodate 20,000 people), improbable locations like the gravity defying 'Hanging Temple' in Shanxi Province China, or natural phenomena like the strawberry-milkshake coloured Lake Hiller in South West Australia. Elborough brings out the stories of each place and shares his wonder at the ingenuity of man and nature. Better buy another copy for my brother!

Great Book
A great book, as really like this, following on from previous releases. Enjoyable read, maybe would have benefited from colour photography.
