It's okay. Kind of old with dated materials.

The book is good and all with good ideas and pointers but why would they recommend an invasive vine like the oriental bittersweet is beyond me. It has spread everywhere in upstate NY and it has engulfed and strangled trees. Even the English ivy shouldn't be recommended as it is also invasive. Haven't checked the other plants in the book but I'm sure you'll find other invasive species in there as well.

I've been collecting inspirational images for my home landscape project for years, but Pinterest just doesn't organize the information and explain it the way I needed. This book started at the beginning, with creating a wish list and a design, and then proceeded through all the steps ("open-air rooms," fences, paths, etc.) all the way down to the plantings and details like lighting and fire/water features. The writing is clear and informative; the author is a well-known landscape designer, and nearly every page taught me something I hadn't known about designing outdoor spaces. I got so many good ideas from the photos; my copy of the book has about a hundred sticky notes sticking out of it!
