WHAT A DELIGHTFUL SERIES OF BOOKS!!
These books are a delightful series!I stumbled upon these quite by chance in a book shop, and just had to purchase them all! It’s a most unusual set of stories about the most unusual, but adorable of animals, a Tapir named ‘Bambang’! He has an equally unusual relationship with an equally unusual little girl who rescues him called Mango! These books are TRULY delightful! Extremely high quality – especially the hardbacks which I have, and the drawings are simply BEAUTIFUL! But for me, the really lovely bit is that the books and drawings – even the story-telling, is done in a nice warm and cosy old-fashioned way, that will delight readers of all ages everywhere! There are four candy-striped books so far. (I do hope there are more to come!) Each one contains several short stories. They are all fun and good to read, but for me, the best one in this, (the first book in the series) by far was the story featuring Dr. Cynthia Prickle-Posset! She is a VERY unusual woman you wouldn’t want to meet or cross; she collects strange things (mostly curios) and I just fell about laughing when I saw that one of her hobbies was collecting ‘Moustaches Of Famous Murderers’!! LOLAbsolutely FABULOUS series this, and long may they continue! They will become classics!Books are written and illustrated by two great and lovely ladies.

Mango & Bambang: The Not-a-Pig
This is a delightful book for children of approx 5+ featuring Mango Allsorts, who lives at the top of a very tall building in the middle of a very, very busy city. Her papa is busy balancing his books in his study and so Mango is often led to her own devices; but she keeps herself busy learning karate, diving, playing the clarinet, learning chess and practising wriggling her ears while sucking a lollipop… Mango needed to keep busy, because otherwise she might had been a little lonely. However, one day she finds Bambang the tapir who is, most certainly, NOT a pig. This first volume of Mango and Bambang’s adventures is written by Polly Faber, with wonderful illustrations by Clara Vulliamy. There are four stories: Mango and the Muddle, Bambang’s Pool, Bambang Puts On a Hat and The Song of the Tapir. The book has a slightly retro design and the illustrations make the stories come alive and are perfect to read either alone or together. My daughter adored this book. Mango and Bambang have lots of adventures – such as going swimming, playing in the park and taking part in a concert. There are also lots of friends and neighbours, such as George-from-the-tree-in-the-park and Dr Cynthia Prickle-Posset, a neighbour who does not like children. I am delighted to see that there is a second book out this year, “Tapir All at Sea,” and I know my daughter cannot wait to read more of Mango and Bambang’s adventures.

A Wonderful New Series, perfect for 5-8 year olds
This book completely charmed me and my five year old daughter. It consists of four beautifully written stories about a little girl who befriends a lost tapir. Polly Faber's writing is a lot of fun with a wit and flair for language that made reading out loud a pleasure. Clara Vulliamy - the daughter of Shirley Hughes' - is the illustrator and her pictures are a joy. We've been giving the book for birthday presents as it's a beautiful richly rewarding book that already seems like a classic. Bring on the next volume!

A modern classic!
As a household who love tapirs we took a chance on this book. It is truly excellent. The story teaches respect, tolerance and kindness. The illustrations are reminiscent of Madeleine. My five year old found it funny, moving and highly enjoyable. A modern but slightly retro classic!
