Great Quilting and Piecing Book
I love this book! Scrap & String quilts are my fave, to make & to buy books about, to read about, to gaze enjoyably at the amazing art that they are, to be inspired to put yet another pattern on my quilts-to-make list.So I have many, many books on String & Scrap quilts! What makes this book special, & especially good are things like:- Lovely spiral binding. So easy to read & use cuz it lies flat and folds around to have just one page up- Great. Accurate patterns. I tend to read quilt books with a pen, double checking the math. No errors that I've found yet & that's unusual. Some patterns are the usual ones for String quilts, but there are some less often seen too. Including a lovely Gallery of further examples.- The quilts are all bed sized! I get tired of having to do all the figuring involved to turn all of the toooo common (IMO) lap-throw sized quilt patterns up to actual bed sizeThere are more positives about this book, but the one I noticed right away, & called 2 others quilters to tell them about --- EVERY piecing/quilt pattern INCLUDES full-sized suggested Quilting designs!! (Except for the 2-3 that don't require them cuz you're following seam lines.)This is soooooo unusual these days. Even though It Isn't a Quilt Until It's Quilted, most books these days end every pattern with "Quilt as desired." Leaving beginners, especially, & the rest of us too, without real ideas for half of making an actual Quilt. The Quilting is as important as the piecing. And while I do not begrudge professional long-arm quilters their income, I really do think the last couple of decades with book after book Not giving actual QUILTING designs & instructions, just very detailed pattern piecing directions & "quilt as desired" -- has left a whole generation of Piecers, not Quilters! So Brava to the authors. For a full-on book about piecing and Quilting!

Great patterns
Although this is an older book, it has some great patterns in it. I find that older books have patterns that modern pattern designers don't simulate. If you are an experienced quilter, you can adapt the instructions and use modern tools to make the project go faster and easier. Like many other quilters, I have tons of scraps. I am going to make some string quilts to help use up some of the scraps. I know it takes a lot of sewing to even see a dent happen in scraps. But I think I will be able to use some patterns in this book to get it going. I plan to make the cover quilt and can use some of the techniques in the book to make another quilt or two.

A Fascinating Way to Make a Quilt
I bought this book and my fingers started itching to make one or all of these patterns. But first, the fun part --- just keep stitching long, or not so long, strips of scrap fabrics of all kinds together. Follow the simple instructions combining colors and prints, whatever you pull out of your scrap pile. When you're finished you'll have some really funky material to work with. Now use the measurements or templates given to make squares, triangles, diamonds, whatever, to make a new old-fashioned looking quilt. Lots of color pictures are included to give you a great selection. OR design your own. Believe me, it's not difficult! That's why this book is so great.

Very inspirational
Or how to make a scrap quilt fast and accurately without sweat ! Every time I look at this book I want to try a new pattern : the technique is well explained and there are great photos of all the quilts projects. There are also extra pictures of old "Stringies" to inspire you. If you've never tried string quilts before this is the book for you.
