The Dodger Is Back

It was good to welcome the Dodger back after his Australian adventures, and I enjoyed Dodger Treads The Boards even more than Dodger Down Under. I felt Mr. Weston's return to the Dodger was written with greater fluidity and authority - possible because he was dealing with the theatre, his lifelong passion. As a keen theatre historian (and like David Weston, an actor and director) I was fascinated by his portrayal of the early Victorian Theatre in all its tawdry magnificence; and taking young Jack off to Russia with the great actor Ira Aldridge was a particularly inspired idea. The Dodger is still very young so I hope David Weston has more to tell us about this beguiling fellow.

A jolly good read.

Since I read the 1st Dodger book I have been looking forward to the next one and I was not disappointed. The second one is full of adventure, excitement and fun and with the author's expressive word pictures you can visualise the scenes in your mind's eye and almost smell the varied odours of the Victorian era! A jolly good read - and were there hints of further books? I do hops so.

Dodger returns

It is a joy to have Dodger back again;this time in a theatrical context where author and actor David Weston is able to bring his extensive experience to the fore. As assistant to Ira Aldridge, the first black actor to play 'Othello', the hapless Dodger's travels span England, Russia and Ireland, meeting Pushkin and discovering some family secrets.I do hope that there is a third volume of Dodger's exploits in the pipeline.

Dodger Treads the Boards.

Even better than Dodger Down Under. Another wonderful journey into the world, not only of the actual Victorian era, but that of Dickens, and now David Weston.

The Dodger's back - Hooray!

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book about Dodger's further adventures and just had to ensure that I was first in the queue for this sequel. Mr Weston's encyclopedic knowledge of the theatre has made this a must read for any students of Victorian times and ensures a terrific page turner of a book. This would make a great TV series.
