The first pen that I really noticed back in the 80's was a gel pen (Uniball). After using cheap Bic pens with oil based inks all my life, the Gel pen was so much smoother and the water based ink flowed much better on the paper. I never touched a regular ball point pen again. I few years ago I switched to fountain pens but I never lost my appreciation for a good Gel pen. I was asked to review these pens and I was hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed. First impression is they are a really beautiful set with complimentary pastel colors and a great box for presentation. The pens are like the retractable ball point pens that are made by everyone else, but they are a top quality pen with a soft grip and a designer pocket clip. The writing is smooth and comfortable, although I prefer a wider point for everyday use, the fine tip would be perfect for more technical writing. The cost is $7.85 for a matched set of 5 pens and 5 refill cartrages making this a perfect stocking stuffer for Christmas. Great value.

Really high quality writing instrument! Barrel is a matte finish but not a coarse surface, making it easy to hold at whatever position you want. The retraction mechanism is smooth and firm without being tight. The pen is long enough to have a good balance, and just the right weight for me. The ink flows smoothly and I can bear down hard if I need to make a "carbon copy" in my checkbook. The .5mm tip is just right to make my handwriting readable without thick lines. Body colors are contemporary and look good as a business accessory for those among us who can still write in cursive. Very satisfying.

They write really nice, but they smear easily. It takes awhile for it to dry. The “bump” on the arm of the pen is great for someone with ADD/ADHD, they can “play” with it. Would recommend these pens.
