Roger Stone is a brilliant, controversial person who has been involved in each of the last nine presidential elections since Richard Nixon's election. He has been a close friend and advisor to Donald Trump for 38 years, since meeting him in 1979... and probably knows him better than anyone else. The book is extraordinarily interesting, a fast, easy read, with facts, fascinating details and anecdotes few others would know, supported by hundreds of references and footnotes. Some of the revelations include: Trump's first consideration of a run for the presidency, for the Reform Party in 1999-2000; why he withdrew; why he reconsidered again in 2012 but deferred to Romney… and then for this critical election: How Hillary Clinton got the MSM behind her despite no one being able to name a single major accomplishment of hers; the FACT BACKED incredibly corrupt role of the MSM, the extent of the MANY dirty tricks used by the Clintons; how Trump hijacked and won the Republican primaries, the importance of the very under estimated Alex Jones and InfoWars; the key roles of Judicial Watch, Drudge Report and others; who the good guys and bad guys are in each camp; the incredible money laundering around Podesta; the stories about the Clinton Foundation; how Hillary stole the Democratic nomination; the real reasons why her platform didn't work; the real effect of WikiLeaks and why she REALLY lost; the truth about her illnesses; how the polls were loaded and missed the real voters; exposure of the true paid protestors; the incredible story of Huma, Saudi spy? The role of the CIA; it wasn't the Russians… and the MANY reasons Trump won, despite several missteps, through brilliant strategies, key team members, very effective use of social media, bypassing the MSM, hard work and INFORMATION; the roles of Tony Fabrizio, Jared... and DATA; This definitive work concludes with how Trump won the closing argument, why and how President Trump is our best hope of returning to a nation of winners ...and what is to come beyond the Soros sponsored riots and the possibility of one of the greatest presidencies. We are living in a world wh - Those who have posted negative reviews to Roger Stone's THE MAKING OF THE PRESIDENT 2016 have obviously not read the book. The Trump view of things
I struggled with rating this book. It has parts that rate really good and other parts which aren't so good. Overall the book is a good summary of the election. It rounds of various news accounts to give the reader a good account of the election. I wouldn't rate it as high as the Theodore White series though. It is obvious in the book who Roger Stone voted for. His reputation jumps off several sections of the book. The bad parts of the book is the account is one sided, Trump's. The author does seem to have more information about that side. He does write about Hillary but then it seems to be just newspaper accounts. The good part of the book is there are places he offers unique information and insight you won't see anywhere else. Roger Stone is the only person to address the dangers of Hillary's friend Huma Abedin. He also dives deep in her part of the email scandal. She was stashing over 650,000 emails for purposes unknown. It isn't addressed why in this book or elsewhere. I also liked the inside stories of various people you won't see referenced elsewhere like the role of infowars, the role of "Hillary for Jail" t-shirts, and most interesting of all was the role Danny Williams. He is the illegitimate son of Bill Clinton. The getting out of that message helped changed the minds of the black vote in several key cities. Overall it is a good story recapping the election.

Great, in-depth look at the 2016 Election
The Making of the President 2016 is a no holds barred look at the 2016 election in which now President Donald Trump pulled off the biggest upset in American political history (even more so than Truman vs. Dewey). The book begins with a bit of a history of Trump entertaining previous presidential runs (he almost went through with it in the Reform Party in 2000 before backing out), all the way through to his decision to run in 2016. You will be taken through the primaries, the general election, and the subsequent aftermath. As is typical to Roger Stone, he does not hold back. As someone who paid close attention to this presidential race (the first time I voted in a presidential primary as a Republican, I'm a former Democrat), I still learned new things from this book. Though Stone is an insider and a friend of Trump's, he has no problem pointing out mistakes that were made in both the primary season and general election. What's interesting is how Trump not only overcame his errors (and yes, he is not perfect and I won't claim that he is) but in many cases, turned them to an advantage, much like any successful business person does. As you would also expect, Stone casts a light on the corrupt media, the theft of the Democratic nomination by Hillary Clinton and the DNC from Bernie Sanders, and the all out hypocrisy of the left which is part of the reason many centrist Democrats are no longer Democrats. Stone backs everything up with sources and is his typical, thorough self. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever, this book is something all Americans with an interest in the political system should read. And yes, any Democrat who still thinks for his/her self should read this (the only way to get your party back is to acknowledge how far it has fallen). Be informed. Turn off the lying media like CNN and look here.

The Story of a Classic Campaign
The presidential election of 2016 was one of the most colorful in the nation's history and will be talked about and studied for generations. It was the surprise election of a lifetime for all save those who can remember back to 1948. Some years that see a suspenseful general election see boring primaries, but both the Democratic and Republican primaries in '16 were compelling as well. Political consultant Roger Stone tells the tale of one of the most remarkable election years in our history in "The Making of the President 2016." Stone has known President Trump for decades, and in this volume he compares Trump to two former presidents—Truman and Nixon. Truman, of course, was the president that pulled off the huge surprise of 1948, and the author notes that Truman and Trump were both hard-hitting, no-holds-barred campaigners. Stone notes that Trump has conservative instincts, but that Trump is a pragmatist in the Nixon mold rather than an ideologue like Ronald Reagan. The country was certainly ready to change course in 2016. The Obama presidency was eight years of domestic stagnation and foreign humiliation, and his administration was so scandal-ridden as to beggar belief. The Democratic nominee for 2016, Hillary Clinton, was, incredibly, not only just as corrupt as the administration she was trying to supplant (Stone recounts how she stole the nomination from Bernie Sanders) and arrogant beyond belief, but had health issues that should have precluded her from ever running, and the author details Clinton's path through the primaries and eventual nomination. The Republican primary fight was one for the ages. Trump took on sixteen other candidates, many of them highly accomplished and talented. The president's early campaigning style shocked many, but voters were looking to revolt against the ruling class that had mismanaged the country in recent decades and overlooked Trump's abrasive style. There was turmoil inside the Trump campaign in the primaries, and Stone recalls how he replaced personnel when the need arose. The book tells the story of the primaries, with Trump eliminating one rival after another through the winter and spring to win nomination in Cleveland. The 2016 campaign was fought even more so than the previous few elections on the Internet, with the country sagely becoming increasingly disgusted with traditional media that had long since become little more than liberal propaganda. Different demographic groups were paying attention to different stories online, and Stone relates one story that I was not even aware of that had an enormous effect on the result. The fall campaign was as dramatic as the rest of the election year had been. Trump's vice-presidential selection Mike Pence proved important, and Stone chronicles the ups and downs of the fall that included the debates, Hillary's "deplorable" comment, the release of the 2005 Trump tape, and the trademark Trump luck that helped him win. Most importantly, Stone argues, Trump won because he won the closing argument that takes place at the very end of any presidential campaign. The book closes by examining the surprising support Trump received from some voting blocs that put him over the top and opines on why Trump won the election. The efforts of the Democrats to steal the election, their protests after the election, and the bogus Russia collusion myth are also cataloged. "The Making of the President 2016" is a definitive account of one of the most memorable elections ever, and would be loved by political junkies who are avid readers about political history and elections.

Fast writing but good retelling
I'm still reading this, so this may have updates, but for now, I'm really enjoying it because it's outlining the same process I was watching for a couple of years. I was not a die hard Trump fanatic. I was and am a thinking individualist who refuses to buy into the psychotic bias of hysteria and frenzy happening today. I grew up in NYC, have a bunch of degrees from Ivy leagues, and do my research. That was an aside for those thinking this may be for the "Trump idiot". It isn't. Yes, as some people note here, the writing could be better. Stone runs quickly, almost too quickly for himself sometimes, trying to outline the details of this and that. The flow can be better. But so far it's a good bird's eye view of what happened, and I'm enjoying the retelling. I watched the election, the counter media, the alt right, the left, the extreme left, BLM, etc. you name it, and I'm liking this narrative because it speaks to a critical thinker. There are many who think that if you like Trump, you're out of your mind, that you're uneducated, etc. This book will infuriate those folks. If you can't see what was happening the last 8 years +, then you can't see what DT stands for and what he hopes to achieve. In the beginning - in the Preface of the book - Stone outlines Obama's two faulty policies. 1) Slow economic growth, quoting that the GDP was at 3% with him. The last time this happened was post the Great Depression. Hmm. And 2) The immigration policy and all the issue with that... That should interest even the more skeptical reader. Anyway, enjoy.

BEST BOOK EVER
BEST BOOK EVER!!! Ok, I know all Trump haters will make stupid remarks & laugh this off! But I am a Christian & know in my heart that God was willing to take this obnoxious (of course I think he's obnoxious), terribly tweeting person, rough on the outside human person & use him to answer the MILLIONS OF PRAYERS of the truehearted, America Loving people in this wonderful country (over 64 MILLION OF US) and will use an unlikely Servant like Donald Trump to BLESS AND SAVE AMERICA FROM A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH. Three that come quickly to mind are:1) Loss of our Religious Freedoms ,Hillary promised us that on TV, 2) Sharia Law (death to Jews, Homosexuals & Christians) and 3) Open Borders (stop & think of the realities of that). My favorite part of this book was curiously in the Preface where Roger Stone, who has known DJT for 35 years or so tells a story that I can no longer read to friends because it makes me cry, EVERY TIME. But, you will need to read it for yourself on page XV of that section, at the bottom of the page through the next page!!! The story leading up to this point is a perfect lead up to this story!! ENJOY!!!!

Good read but...
This was a interesting read I got to learn more about the origins of the bill Clinton Rape shirt and Danny Williams. Both played a key role according to stone in this book. However must of this information I already knew due to following heavily this circus of an election. I was hoping for more behind the scenes w him and Donald. I still would recommend this to anyone that didn't follow the election as thoroughly as I did
