They are SMALL and barely make any noise.The adjustable speed controller actually works but I keep it on high.Been pumping for a couple of weeks in Bubbleponics top-drip DWC grow. I used my extra RO push connectors, rigid RO hose with a red sprayer screwed into the end pointed towards the clay people's and 1.5" rockwool cube. Had to drill a small hole almost to the top inside of the basket. The 3 foot hose it comes with works perfect to allow enough room to remove lid. I have it on a timer and only runs for a bit and shuts off when the lights are on. WORKS Great!

Small in size, virtually no sound, works but only a 6-8 inch upward push of water , keep that in mind,,,,,Update: these work spectacular for a five gallon bucket hydroponics system,,, use a five gallon bucket with a lid, cut a hole for a 3'-6' net pot , run the hose through the pot slits,,, and you have a great hydroponics for great tomatoes, peppers, canibis, strawberries etc. enjoy
