I like the way this gasket seals...
...but prepare yourself when you have to remove the primary cover.I have used this gasket in the past and have been satisfied with the seal. Goes on easily, fits correctly, sturdy with 2 silicone beads on both sides. I don't find it superior to the HD part, but my nearest dealer is about an hour away, so I order when I can for parts that I need. I will however, make the trip when I need a primary gasket in the future.I have never had a leak with a James or HD primary gasket and they cost about the same, unless you figure 2 hours drive time. But when it is time to adjust the clutch, change the shoe on the tensioner or anything else that involves removing the primary cover, I have never had a problem removing an HD primary gasket. A gentle tap around with a soft mallet and the HD part will let go and not stick to the cover or the case, even after thousands of miles. The James gasket lets the chrome plated surface of the primary cover release easily with absolutely no residue, but it is securely fixed to the primary case, particularly the bottom, naturally the hardest to get to and it is easily a 4 hour job getting the residue off the case. There are those that would say, scrape it and go, but I'd give that method a 50/50 chance of leaking. I use WD40, soaked overnight, a razor blade, a hard plastic car body scraper, a stack of wooden door shims and a small brass brush to take the residual gasket material off and get the case to a factory smooth surface . There may be some stains on the surface, but there can be no trace of gasket material residue. The James gaskets are among the best, and I have never had one leak, properly installed, but the HD is just as good and much easier to get off. So, if you do not intend to get back into the primary after the James gasket is installed, it is much easier to get unless you live close to the dealership.

Not happy. Leaked after install
I pulled my primary to check my shoe. Order this gasket and reinstalled. Before a could get off the rack I noticed a leak. Pulled again made sure all was good reinstalled and after a quick ride parked and leaning again. Removed cover and nothing is off. This is my experience hope other have better luck. I’ll run to Harley and get there to see how that goes.Didn’t have a leak till I put this gasket on.
