I have a 1650mA DC battery pack, will it work with this pen or will it mess it up?

Hi, if it is the battery pack that came with it, then yes. If it is a different one, then I'm not sure. My Solong Pen runs for a good 4hrs when fully charge. Once it has died. I can also plug it up to my power supply box. I had mines for about 7 or 8 months haven't had a problem so far. I love it. Hopefully I was some help.

Is the needle depth adjustable by twisting the grip?

By twisting the front end of the grip you can adjust needle depth.

Is the needle bar necessary for this machine, or is all necessary equipment inside to move the needle action?

No needle bar needed. Everything is all equipt inside the machine. You do need to have a power supply and foot pedal.
