Overhyped and overpriced
Overpriced and not fit for the job. Had high hopes for this but it just doesn't stop Razer burn. I will be sticking to osmo shave spray.

Extremely refreshing
Love it - makes my face feel fantastic after a shave.

Expensive for its size; no better than cheaper alternative
There are many shaving gels, foams etc that are sold under a wide range of brands including the widely known Gillette and L'Oreal ranges that have variously featured on my bathroom shelf or cabinet over many years. There were also a few from more elite brands, often as not gifted. "Baxter of California Beard Line-up Shave Gel, 3.4 fl. oz" can be used as a normal non-lathering shaving gel but is marketed essentially for detailing along the edges of a beard, moustache or sideburns in order to obtain the cleanest lines or curves necessary for the neatly-finished look. Most of its ingredients include the typical manufactured compounds found in many other similar products and an unusually varied range of botanical extracts, not least of which are aloe vera and eucalyptus oil. The remainder presumably either contribute to overall fragrance, such as limonene, as may the several leaf extracts which are unfamiliar but not necessarily of concern or otherwise provide supposed additional benefits. One ingredient that does concern is an acrylate copolymer which, as a group, are extensively banned from use in food or oral medications and also supposedly widely banned for topical use on the skin although considered essential when used in nail polishes as a glue to help the colour adhere. These materials are known to cause a wide range of adverse short- or medium-term reactions including rashes, inflammation, blistering and burning sensations plus other longer-term effects; use of a moisturising product that incorporated an acrylate copolymer was discontinued as it instantly caused some of those issues although whether due to the copolymer or another sensitising ingredient is unknown but the problem later eased after a few hours; the product was quickly discarded to avoid those and other potential issues were it to be re-applied.There is also a claim for it to be 'water-free' but 'aqua/water' is clearly listed among the ingredients and is requiured for used; it is essential in the manufacture of many liquid and gel products while an alcohol is another required solvent. The claim is nonsensical and not understood. The product is claimed not to clog the blades of a razor and shouldn't if the blades are well washed in warm running water after use but, as with any shaving gel and cream, if any residue is allowed to dry it will clog; a quick swirl in water will likely not remove it. In use, the gel was applied to the washed but not dried face in moderation to relatively contained areas and washed off once the edges of beard and moustache were trimmed; as skin contact was brief and the gel diluted there was a reduced opportunity for much to be absorbed (in contrast with a moisturiser that is applied full-strength and allowed to dry into the skin), there was only a mild irritation that quickly passed. The gel is mildly perfumed but it is the powerful odour of eucalyptus that is most evident with minor background herbal notes; the other fragrance components are overwhelmed. Compared to competing products, it is substantially more expensive than many major brands but a proportion of its price may be attributed to its journey from California. Whether it offers sufficient, or specifically unique benefits to justify its purchase is for the individual to decide and this user is yet to be convinced as it performed no better than an alternative that retails for 75% less.

A very good invisible shaving gel with a lovely fresh scent. Price however, is a bit on the steep side.
Well this is an interesting product … a non-foaming near invisible shaving gel that also nourishes the skin.My husband has a neat style of beard that involves very neat edges, this he finds quite hard to do with foams and gels. He mainly uses a beard oil which works quite well for shaving and shaping, however he is not too keen on the oily residue that is left on his beard afterwards. He was keen to give this one a try.The first thing to say is that this shaving gel contains natural ingredients such as eucalyptus oil, aloe vera and vitamins C and E, it has a lovely fresh eucalyptus scent and also leaves a cooling sensation on the skin after application. As advertised this gel is virtually invisible which means you can easily see where you need to shave for tight neat edges. My husband noticed that although the gel was invisible it did seem to make the shaving process smoother without irritation. Using this gel my husband was able to achieve a really close shave with lovely neat edges which he was very pleased with. The price of this shaving gel from Baxter of California is a bit on the steep side, however, my husband only needed to use a small amount of gel for good results so depending on how long this gel lasts will determine whether he purchases it again.

Pleasant shave gel
I have had beards of various styles on and off for over 30 years. In that time I have never, not once had a problem trimming an edge because I could not see through foam.So really, this company are striving to invent a solution for a problem which I don't think anybody has. That is modern day marketing for you I suppose. That nonsense aside, this is nice shave gel to use. Smooth to use and no skin irritation. Pleasant minty/eucalyptus smell. Contains Aloe vera so feels very cooling.Contains no parabens. Always a bonus.

Something different, including the price!
This is an unusual shaving gel, different from the norm and I love it. I just don't love the price and I wouldn't buy it at anything like that level. In this case I've taken value for money into account and deducted a star.It has a very powerful eucalyptus smell which I'm now saving for when I'm congested! Is this the first medicinal shaving gel I've ever used? Possibly. It certainly has that sort of fragrance.I've grown accustomed to non-foaming gels and so this ticks that box for me. It's very smooth but I can feel where I've applied it due to a cold, almost stinging feeling which I find invigorating. This is just as well because, looking in the mirror, the gel is invisible once applied which is slightly odd.For this review I haven't looked into the ingredients too much, but there are enough natural ingredients to satisfy me that it's not a cheap formula.I'll probably keep a watch on the price as I consider it a five-star product. Only four stars for now though as it's priced way too high.

This clear gel is great for shaving around a beard but a tad expensive
I've never heard of Baxter before but as up-market (read: expensive) shaving gels go, this is pretty good. Though it could have a nicer scent, or no scent at all. The smell does fade quickly though.Anyway, you only need a small amount as it distributes well on a wet face. Best of all, it remains clear so you can shave tightly along the edges of your beard without accidentally trimming some of it. I only shave my neck so this tube will last me some time. Previously I used shaving oils to get the same effect but the gel gives a smoother shave (especially with 2 day stubble) and leaves the skin feeling soft afterwards. As I said earlier, it's quite expensive for a small tube but give how much we have to pay for razor blades, it's probably around the same value for those of us who only shave a part of our face.
