These are great for opening Amazon boxes. The cutters don't work so well on bubble wrap packages that have a perforation on the edge. I use a knife or scissors for those packages. The material to be cut has to be stiff enough for the steel edge to cut it.

This comes as a package of five box cutters. Each cutter is dual headed (eg., both sides have blades) and the blades are recessed for protection.As per protection - I tried to see if it would cut me, and even my pinky wouldn't fit to the blade. However, we also have a parrot who free-ranges, so I will need to keep these away from his prying eyes as I'm pretty sure his toes and tongue would easily fit. (hint, babies could get hurt)As per the blade... yup, cuts cardboard boxes like butter. Very nice.The construction of the plastic is thin and a bit flimsy, but as long as you have a good grip it shouldn't break on you. With a package of five - you get plenty of backups as well.The blades are not replaceable (of course).I think these are a tad expensive per unit - but they work as advertised.

I am really happy that I had purchased these box cutters as they work well for opening and breaking down boxes. This comes as a package of five and the price is very reasonable as well for this item.

To rip carpet, the knife works but dulls very quickly when used for that. But, it is very safe.
