Not an electric violin
It is not an electric violin as the description states. It is very lightweight and cheaply made and the sound quality is sub-par.

Pleasantly surprised
The previous reviewer is right, this is mislabeled as electric when it is an acoustic. My son came through the door with one of these two weeks ago, purchased at a local music superstore (for almost the exact same price as listed here) and when I asked him how much it cost, I practically flinched. I was all set with the speech about cheap violins and thinking how would I get him to take it back, but it appears to be of at least equal quality if not better to some that cost double that amount. He is, after two weeks and with no previous experience with a stringed instrument, playing tunes from a book and sounds GOOD. The only problem is that he will have to get a better bow. It is probably about the cheapest quality bow possible and I've seen better on Amazon in the $35.00 - $40.00 range. I think he will go with a Glasser student model for the bow replacement.

Enough to get your feet wet
I rented this violin from my local music store which charges $265 to purchase it as a full outfit with bow and case. I'm an adult beginner and was thrilled to just try out the violin, I wasn't too concerned with quality. Three months in, however, and the thing is pretty much unplayable. The pegs constantly slip out of tune, and the tone of the instrument is just bad - I know because I've tried others since. I asked the professionals at a violin repair shop if I could do anything to make it better and they said no. Many folks will be attracted to this based on the price (I was too!) but if you're considering playing, I would strongly suggest either renting a better quality one from your local music store, or going up in price to get started.
