Perfect for our lizard
We got this substrate to use in our little lizards new tank and it is a very nice substrate. Because it's already loose in the bag you just pour in the amount you need and spray with a little water to give your reptile the humidity it needs and your good to go. It is a shredded coconut fiber so it holds the moisture really well and would mix well with other types of substrate if you need to do so.

Good substrate, well packed!
I love the quality of packaging for this substrate- it's sealed, using a heavy plastic resistant to puncture. Thicker than, say, reptisoil or something you might buy in a store. The composition holds moisture well (using it for invertebrates) and hasn't shown any problems with molding!

It STINKS!
It really looks like good substrate. It's supposed to be perfect for bioactive terrariums. My bag came in with no problems, no punctures, packed well. I opened and the smell was more than I could handle. It's rough. I ended up cutting it with ReptiSoil about 50/50, maybe a little heavier on the ReptiSoil. It helped but not a lot. After a few days the smell dissipated. I'm using it for a crested gecko and there's been no issues.I did contact the company and they said it was normal to have a strong not so pleasant smell. I plan to set up a true bioactive terrarium for my gecko in the next few months, but I'm not sure I can handle the smell to use this. It's really strong for a while.

Loose, Lofty, RICH
This is absolutely a great loose, lofty substrate. It consists almost exclusively of fine particles that fluff up and hold moisture without being wet.Given the price, I think this would be a great addition to a bioactive enclosure as a supplement. In a humid vivarium it would make a great top layer to feed and sustain your CUC, and even in a more arid vivarium you could add more of this around the water dish to help with the humidity gradient and give your CUC an amazing cool and humid area to retreat to as desired.

Eucalyptus or Cedar Smell
It has great texture and natural earth color, BUT it has a strong smell of eucalyptus or cedar, which my corn snake did not like. In fact, he came out of his hide and leaned up against the glass with his head pointed upwards towards the screen top. I also tried it with isopods. They went to the surface and they situated themselves on top of the log cave, away from the Living Earth Substrate. Then out of curiosity, I tried Living Earth Substrate for a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. She did not like it, either. She went to the surface and crawled on top of a plant leaf, away from the Living Earth Substrate. The smell is so strong, I can be six feet away and I can still smell it. I removed all of it and went back to the aspen and coir mix.

Got this for my monstera and it's been great...except...
Yes, I bought reptile substrata for my beloved plant. I'm not sure what came over me, but I'm pretty sure it originally had something to do with me thinking I could foster a colony of springtails or isopods before sense took over and I created a little tub for them. That said, it smells a lot like manure. Like, a lot. And if you plan to use it indoors, at least keep in mind that it's gonna have a smell to it for a couple of weeks whenever you water your beauties.

Great quality reptile substrate! 1 gallon, particles are chopped fine and clean!
This is a bag of reptile substrate material. It is 1 gallon and it is comprised of leaves, moss, bark, charcoal, and coconut fiber. This substrate material is chopped fine and evenly, and it is very clean for what it is, as well. This is earthy, organic and the perfect material for my leopard gecko. I do not like having any animal in a super sterile environment, and this substrate provides a little bit of Earth for him to smell and touch. I am very happy to have this excellent selection/combination of reptile substrate material to help keep my little gecko happy and healthy!
