This review is specifically for the Dermafirm Moist Barrier Balancing Emulsion Cream M4. I've been a loyal Lancôme customer for literally several decades, and mourned when they discontinued the beloved Bienfait Aqua Vital lotion. Over the years I've tried dozens of moisturizers – lotions, gels, creams – from myriad skincare companies – from prestige lines to drugstore brands. But I never found anything that came close to being able to replace Bienfait Aqua Vital lotion ... until now. Although they call the Dermafirm Moist Barrier Balancing Emulsion a "cream" it's actually a silky lotion. It smooths onto my skin and seems to almost melt into it, providing all-day dewy, oil-free moisture. Another factor in its favor? I'm sensitive to products containing SPF – it clogs my pores – but the Dermafirm Moist Balancing Emulsion is blissfully SPF free. Lancôme, customers have begged for years for you to resurrect Bienfait Aqua Vital lotion, yet you've never heeded our pleas. So, Lancôme, eat your heart out – you have been replaced.

This lotion is very suitable for my skin and feels very comfortable

I love the texture of this moisturizer, it's more liquidy than it is dense and leaves no stickiness or layers of residue. It's soft and feels cooling. I don't see any particular change in my skin after a few uses, and I can't comment on the long-term effectiveness. I appreciate that I can barely detect any fragrance, which is always my preference. I can say this seems to be a trustworthy brand with a quality product. The only reason I'm not completely elated is that I'm not convinced to make a switch from my regular whipped tallow moisturizer, which I find to be more moisturizing. I'm always up for changing my routine if I find something better than what I already use, and I don't think this is. I'm sure I'll get through the bottle though! They seem serious and purposeful about their ingredients, and I'm optimistic that this would have long-term benefits.

This lotion is lightweight but rich. It soaks in nicely and makeup goes on over it smoothly. It doesn’t irritate my eyes and there is no strong scent, I love everything about it.

I have tried so so many moisturizers for my face, and this one is perfect. Super light, but you can build it up if you want. It makes my skin feel and look so good. It’s crazy, I’ve been using this for literally two days and my skin already looks drastically better. It looks bright and feels super baby soft. Don’t even need to wear makeup! Standing by this one for sure. I’m genuinely surprised how good this moisturizer is.

This is a great sized bottle but you really don't know what you're getting for the price. There are different types of lotions in this line and they're lumped together in the reviews, so pay attention to who got which product. The one that I got isn't moisturizing at all. My skin got extremely dry over the past year (coming from oily skin) and I've recently been able to normalize it, but using this alone will not moisturize my skin and I find that I need another moisturizer on top of it, if not some jojoba oil. I really like that it settles into the skin and doesn't lay on top of it, and doesn't cause any irritation when I put it around my eyes or on my eyelids. There's also zero scent to this one or if there is, it's so minimal that I don't notice it. What I really noticed is that there is something in it that makes my face more sensitive to sun exposure. I normally don't have a problems with this, since I keep a base tan year round, but this made my face sensitive to UV and it got red after exposure, feeling like a very light burn. Now, I use this on my face, neck, chest and tops of my hands and they weren't as sensitive so I don't know why it would have a different effect on just my face and there isn't anything different that I used or did to those same areas b/c I treat them all the same. I've had no other bad reactions to this product other than the sensitivity on my face, which is odd. It really bothers me that I haven't been able to easily find the ingredients and what is listed in what order so I'm at least vaguely aware of the concentration of those ingredients. There's also no peer reviewed studies on the product that said "after this amount of time, users saw these improvements" or some such statement. Great sized bottle that I'll continue to use and test out but as of now, I don't see why anyone would pay this price for a product they know next to nothing about.

In the winter I like to use this instead of a lighter toner. I live in the north east and it’s cold cold cold in that season.
