Quality product, consistent readings
I bought a very similar device (by Omron) way back in 1985, when I was in my mid thirties, and have kept records of my blood pressure (BP) at various times over the years. I still have that monitor and it still gives readings after 36 years. It also has manual inflation, which I like a lot. Why use batteries for inflation if you can do it very easily yourself? It's more fun, you can pretend you're a doctor and you can pump up gently, avoiding the sometimes rapid and noisy inflation of a motorised one (which I did buy once but found to be unreliable). It must be 4 or 5 years since I had my BP checked by a doctor or nurse. It was borderline at around 140/85 at that time, but not considered necessary to treat with drugs. They said I should keep it monitored in the future, but I never got round to checking it until just recently. A cousin of mine was telling me of her BP problems, which reminded me to check my own. My old monitor had been gathering dust in a cupboard for maybe 10-15 years. I got the old monitor out, cleaned it up, changed the battery and took a reading. I got a real shock when the BP reading was 156/87. Over the next week I got readings of between 133/89 and 178/84, averaging 148/83 from 10 readings. Since BP monitors are supposed to need calibrating every two years, I thought it would be a good investment to buy a new BP monitor and spotted the Boso Medicus on Amazon at a good price, with good reviews. It's a nice looking device and is very simple and easy to use, as is my old monitor. Over the last few days the Boso Medicus is giving significantly lower readings, so that the average BP is 132/86 from 6 readings over 4 days. I'm hoping the Boso Medicus is giving the correct readings and that my old monitor is inaccurate and probably badly needs re-calibration (cheaper to buy another though). When I eventually get my BP checked at my local doctor's surgery, I'll find out which is correct and edit this review with more information. At the moment I'm very happy with my Boso Medicus monitor.
