Smooth, creamy and robust for pours!
Americana Satin Enamel White is a smooth, creamy opaque white with great coverage and when used as a base coat for acrylic pours doesn't allow the canvas to show through in the way many whites do. It tolerates being mixed up to 50/50 with Floetrol or Clear Glue such as Elmers, without losing any of that quality. It dries to a satin sheen as advertised. I went on to thin it down for the swipe you see here.. so, 50% paint 50% Floetrol.. then enough water to produce a thin runny honey consistency, two drops of pure dimethicone, poured and swiped with wet paper towel. I think it worked really well, don't you? It's great at holding conflicting colours apart when layered or drizzled between in a dirty or flip cup pour. Don't ask about Dutch pours though.. my hairdryer is too eager to Dutch pour my art room, leaving very little on the canvas!! Not my fortè! Haha Will buy this product again and again with confidence though. 😁👍🏻👩🎨

The paint pots came damaged and I had a mess to clean up and loss of product. I think these containers don’t travel well but I do love the effects it makes.

I am a DIY that has done a lot of furniture products. I checked their website before painting to see if there was more information about application than is on their small jar, but I didn't see any. I was excited to try this paint, and my first project was a bathroom cabinet. I disagree with their no primer needed advice. I went over a dark cabinet and had bleed through after a while. So I primed it, then painted it again. (It is my experience that you never regret priming furniture first, so lesson learned again.) No more bleed through. I like to roll my furniture when possible for a smoother finish, only rolling in one direction (no back and forth like you do when painting a wall). I had poor success doing so with this paint. It left bubbles all over, so I went against my normal painting technique of only rolling in one direction going back and forth, and that did not get rid of the bubbles. I had to knock the bubbles down by lightly going over it with a paint brush. Unfortunately, using a paint brush does leave faint brush marks, and that just bugged me. Next time I will try a sponge type roller and see if I have better luck. When I do, I will try and remember to update this review. UPDATE: I’ve done a few more projects with this paint, using a small roller (and a paint brush where needed). I use a small roller (the skinny kind in best available) because a large one would probably soak up at least half of the small jar of paint. It leaves bubbles when rolling, but I’ve learned they disappear on their own. I did a bathroom cabinet that is used by two parents and three younger kids. It has held up really well for the past ten months. I wash with TSP, then prime with good primer paint. I will always prime before using this paint. It prevents bleed through and I believe it helps with adhesion. I lightly sand between coats. Based on the great durability, this paint is now my go to paint for furniture projects. I have found their coverage estimate of two coats for 20 square feet to be accurate. Update Dec. 2018: It's been over a year and the kitchen and bathroom cabinets still look good. And obviously, they get a lot of use. I have done other projects, and have discarded my rule about only rolling in one directions. I roll back and forth, and then I do it all in one direction to finish it off.
