Hard to put it down.
This book is a wonderful reference to an American Saint. It tells his life from childhood to his eventual death in an easily read and understandable way. It is so interesting that I found it hard to put it down. I recommend it to all,

A spiritual giant
I recommend this book for everyone to read especially young people. Father Solanus’ example is a pattern for all of us to follow. His example of Humility, not thinking more highly of himself than he should, compassion and concern for everyone, whether of high social status or not endeared himself to masses of people from all walks of life who bombarded the gates of every friary, monastery he lived for solace, counseling, and aid. He never turned anyone aside. He rarely thought of himself, always of others. This book was well written and can be read and understood by all ages! I highly recommend for all readers!

A great complement to the Caasey library
a truly fresh biography, with great focus on both the amazing Fr. Casey and his preternatural abilities, and how acceptance of suffering has equal place along side faithful optimism in God's love and the promise of, in many but not all cases, amazing cures. Equally important is the spiritual benefit obtained by those who do not get a miracle in the form of a cure. Most impressive is the way this biography explores the extended family, and the difficulty sometimes posed to his order by the many 'fan clubs'.

Wonderful Book
A wonderfully written book about a great saint. My soul has benefited from reading it, and from the example of the life of this humble servant of God, Bl. Solanus Casey. I will send it as a gift to others.

This is an inspiring and well-researched biography of St. Solanus. If your goal is to become closer with God by seeing how a true saint lives and thinks, this is the book for you. Truly inspiring. Quite entertaining as well - Father Solanus had a lively sense of humor.

All You Need to Know About Solanus Casey
I'm giving this book five stars because it was exactly the sort of book I was looking for. It's not a long book, but I feel that it encapsulates the life of Blessed Solanus Casey very effectively. There are longer books (which I haven't read), but I can't imagine them adding very much. The Blessed Solanus lived a very simple life, which is part of his appeal to me.Does this book contain more information than you will find on the internet? Yes, it does. There are very many interesting stories and glimpses into this holy man's life. For instance, when I was reading about Solanus Casey on the internet, I was fascinated by the story of his arrival at a Capuchin monastery on Christmas Eve, after travelling a great distance through a snow-storm, to begin his candidature. Exhausted, he fell asleep immediately, but woke to the sound of Christmas carols as the friars made their way to Mass. This is a beautiful story, but Odell's book fleshes it out a bit-- the Blessed Solanus was still unsure of his calling at this stage, and remained so for some time. It was not the decisive moment that many of the articles I've read suggest it was. There are many other interesting glimpses into his life and personality, and fascinating stories not available elsewhere-- for instance, the account of the communist who arrived at the monastery intent on killing him!I only have two (minor) complaints about this book. The first is that it's heavily weighted towards his youth and his old age, with not so much material about his prime of life and middle age. This may simply reflect the available sources. Also, it falls into the all-too-common bad habit of "mind-reading" which too many biographers, and especially hagiographers (biographers of saints) seem to indulge. Now and again we are told that Solanus "must have" had this or that thought at some given moment-- how does Odell know this? I like biographies to stick to what we actually know. These are minor complaints. This is a really good book which I read again and again. We read the lives of the saints for inspiration, and this book always inspires me.
