Great way to learn electronics!
While software is ubiquitous, the physical world is still analog, and to interface with it some knowledge of electronics can be very useful. This product is a great way to experiment and learn electronics. There are 146 experiments with 141 pieces, and fantastic manual over 160 pages. It is fun, useful, and helps with creating clean circuit designs, which require art and science.Experiment 119 is about using the 555 Timer integrated circuit (IC). I simplified it a little by taking out the speaker and kept it at one LED, blinking. Once the circuit was working, I replicated the experiment in a simulation using ElectricVLab : 3D Virtual Lab for Electricity & Electronics [Download]. Doing this made me realize just how much cleaner Thames & Kosmos has made the use of the 555 timer IC by placing that chip inside an easy to use block. The complexity hidden can be seen in the simulation.I've attached a video of the circuit example using Thames and Kosmos Electronics Advanced Circuit Kit and then a simulation of it. Both work the same way.Using Thames & Kosmos as a guide.can really help out with cleaner circuit design.

It's a nice educational break from the video games
My son loves this set. He received it last year for Christmas. He plays with it often especially when friends come to visit. It's a nice educational break from the video games! The book is fantastic with step by step instructions. The kids can easily follow without becoming frustrated. Highly recommend!

Some components don’t work
Parts of the electronics kit do not work. Specifically all of the sound components. Very frustrating for our 9 year old boy. I wouldn’t recommend buying this electronics set.

explanation
The price is fine, but there is not nearly enough details on what you are doing in each project.More explanation of the projects is needed in details.
