Somewhat dated
A pleasant enough tale of a young boy who encounters the ghosts of children past. If you want to know the Green Knowe story then this is a good way of doing so. Just be aware, it may come across as a bit dated.

The Magic Lives On!
I am absolutely delighted that the BBC finally decided to release this exquisite children's drama on DVD having been petitioned by many (including myself) to do so. It just goes to show that you can have an impact if you speak up. This series is faithful to the book and has stood the test of time extremely well. I would go so far as to say that the experience of watching this remains one of the fondest memories of my childhood and cultivated an interest in the connection between past and present. Upon watching it almost 30 years later (ouch! Really that long?!) I was not disappointed. If you were a fan as a child, be assured that all of that magic is still there waiting for you, however cynical you feel that you have become in the intervening period. A lovely thing to introduce to your own children if you have any and possibly a good way to encourage interest in the many Green Knowe books by Lucy. M. Boston.

A trip down Memory Lane . . .
I’m rediscovering old childhood books with my granddaughter just now and the Lucy M Boston Greenknowe books are firm favourites. I remembered this TV series as being very Christmassy and the added bonus is that it was filmed in the real house which Greenknowe was based on. Lovely to watch by the fireside on a winter’s evening.

Joyful re discovery!
I first came across Lucy Monday Boston's story when I watched this on the BBC and I loved it from the start. I'd happened to video tape it, as it screened while I was at work and I was so very glad I did, as I've watched it over and over during the years since. It got to the stage where I could no longer watch it as my player, then the tape wore out. My joy was unbounded when, after years of wishing and hoping, I found it had, at long last, been released on DVD! I have to admit, as soon as it fell through the door, I dropped everything I'd been doing on my day off and it went straight into the player and the years rolled back. Thank you BBC!

Captures the atmosphere perfectly
This version of The Chlldren of Green Knowe captures the atmosphere beautifully, although it wasn’t filmed in the house.I was lucky enough as a child to visit the author Lucy Boston on many occasions, the big inglenook fireplace is just right, Lucy and I sat either side every evening by candlelight, and she would have me read aloud ghost stories to her.

It hasn't been remastered, so it's very grainy and washed out
Just to clarify, I'm certainly enjoying seeing this again after so many years, one of my childhood memories is of this show being on one Christmas in the 80's. However, it's a bit disappointing that nothing seems to have been done to improve the quality of this recording over what an old VHS recording off the TV would look like. The colour is very "grey" with no depth, some scenes are very hard to make out because a lot of scenes are in the dark, but the poor quality of the video makes it even harder to discern what's happening. It's very low resolution and even the text titles have been done is extremely low-res text, they look awful.Would have been nice if they had remastered it, that's all.
