I was very excited about this gate, as we have been looking for a gate to fit our kitchen opening. This opening has a length of 77.5 inches. So, a gate which says it fits 80 inches surely should fit. It doesn't. With wall mounts screwed in and the entire gate aligned straight, it only reaches about 75.5 inches. Just a hair short. So, I'm questioning how they claim it fits an opening which is 80 inches when it can't even complete straight closer on an opening that is 77.5 inches. Unfortunately, to solve this issue we have to purchase the 9 inch extension. For a gate this expensive, I would expect more accurate marketing regarding the length.

The KidCo Auto Close Configure Gate was one of three configurable gates that we tried out and the ultimate winner. Even though the price was basically double that of the second-best option (DreamBaby Newport), we chose the KidCo one for the irregular shaped staircase at the top of our stairs primarily because (1) it felt solid and sturdy (especially because of the caps that did a better job of locking the shape of the gate at the panel joints versus its competitors) and (2) the 9" extension option was very useful in our case. I wish the KidCo wasn't so expensive, but I appreciate all of the options that you can purchase (like the 9" extension piece, or the stairway installation kit) which make it even more customized to one's particular gate needs. The KidCo gate is auto-close, which can be good and bad, but the door can also stay open if you open it fully to a 90 degree angle. And having to lift up the door to open takes a little getting used to. One thing that the DreamBaby Newport offered that I wish the KidCo had was a stopper to prevent the gate from opening in both directions. I'll end up having to rig something up to prevent the gate from opening out towards the stairs, but that wasn't enough of a dealbreaker for me to pass on this one.

You’d better have 3-8 extra hours, plenty of spackle, a long level, a ruler, felt pads, some sort of adhesive that won’t damage the floor and walls, plastic ties, and lots of hardware and tools if you want to install this stupid awkwardly designed gate. There is zero wiggle room and it will be very shaky if you do not install it exactly straight. Except, if your walls aren’t perfectly even or vertical, you are screwed.More lazy engineering from another company that can’t seem to muster the will to do any testing of the user experience before selling the product. I should have just built my own gate like I planned. I thought using this would save me time, but that is definitely not the case.

We have an awkward staircase that does not have a railing at the very bottom. This was the perfect solution. We bought an additional small extender and can now fit it exactly like we wanted. It also looks way nicer than the gates we used years ago. My husband also installed it in less than 30 minutes and said it was very easy. Seems pricy, but worth it.

The gate serves its purpose for me. It keeps my dogs in the kitchen. It's decent looking, and easy to install. The gate is a self close. It says it will fit an 80" opening....almost, more like 79 1/4". I had to add 3/4" boards behind the mounting brackets on one side. I used it in straight line across an 80" cased opening. It is kind of flimsy.

Exactly what we needed. We have an opening just short of 80". This was the only style we could find that would fit our space. It was easy to install, and even better because we have ornate baseboards, we were able to adjust the wall anchors. Others did not have this option. Very happy with our purchase and wish we would've found it sooner =)

This is a great sturdy gate I needed for my very active, very large toddler grandson. I can’t speak to the assembly, because my son did that for me. But it far surpasses some flimsier gates I’ve seen lately.
