Perfect in our backyard.
This is great. Able to put in two suet blocks at a time and it helped get rid of unwanted birds as they have to hang from the bottom to use.

Starlings and black birds stay away
Had problems with starlings and blackbirds taking over our suet feeders until we replaced them with these! Absolutely no more problems. All the other birds figured out just how to use it

Waiting
I really was excited to receive and hang this feeder. Now Iād be excited if the birds were using it.I have had it up for a couple months now and nothing. I rigged a perch underneath to help the birds find the goodies. They ate a bit like that, but werenāt really seeking it out. I moved the cakes around thinking the cricket filled one would be a good draw, particularly for the many woodpeckers. One downy snacked once and nothing since. (Full disclosure, there are a dozen feeders for them to choose.)I am saddened, but remain hopeful. The worst of winter weather may have them seeking something untouched by snow. It looks really nice even if they cannot use the top to perch. One more upside is that the squirrels have been unable to raid it.

Great for "bully" birds
I live in Colorado high forest and was having a huge problem with the Nutcrackers. As soon as I hung my suet cage outside, they would arrive and chase away everything else. They were eating through at least one cake a day. This feeder is great! They haven't even looked at it. And they've been around getting water. All the little birds and Woodpeckers like it and the Jays hang out at the bottom and pick up whatever falls. It took a bit longer for them to get used to it, but I've got lots of birds now. Easy to clean and fill, and looks nice. If you have a problem with bully birds taking over the neighborhood, I think this will work better than most of the other bottom feeders shown on Amazon. I had my old suet cage attached to a large board and hung upside down, similar to the ones on this page, and they figured it out in a few weeks. Just leaned over. Birds are pretty smart.

Good design and well made for the price.
I was a little skeptical about how sturdy this would be and about the overall design in general, but I have to admit that I'm pleasantly surprised. I work in a sheet metal fabrication shop so this is coming from an accustomed eye.The housing is made from a powdercoated light gauge metal with various bird images stamped on the sides. The lid is made of a formed light gauge copper sheet. A painted metal chain threads through the lid (roof). What is not readily apparent from the pictures is that there is a third piece, a powdercoated metal plate that fits inside the housing (atop suet) with a metal rod that protrudes through the lid. This plate serves several purposes. For one, the metal rod gives you a visual reference as to how much suet remains in feeder, it lowers as suet is depleted. Additionally, it serves as a barrier to the suet from above in case a clever squirrel can manage to lift the lid. This actually happened to mine. I saw that the lid was askew and thought that my nemesis (a red pine squirrel) had defeated the design and feasted on my suet. But when I investigated, I realized that he was foiled by that inner plate and he didn't get a scrap! Since then he hasn't bothered with this feeder at all. Nice!Overall, great design, well made, and can't be chewed through like the feeders made of wood. A good value for the price.

Starlings found it first...
Starlings can still get the suet, but they have to hover under it and they seem to get worn out pretty quick... It's been out there for about two weeks now, and I finally saw a downy woodpecker fly up and hang onto it to chow down. He was on there for quite a while and I'm sure he we be back now that he has found it. Looks great and actually does what it should. Price doesn't suck either. I would recommend!

This targets the bird species that I want to attract.
This is an addendum to the original review; I've had to modify the feeder so larger woodpeckers can manage to eat upside down. The size of the bottom is too small for most of my target species to hang upside down. This is a very solid value and an attractive feeder. It takes the birds some time to locate the suet cakes, however, it discouraged the starlings the day I replaced my suet cake holder with it.

chicadees love it and it looks really cute
A very easy to use feeder, assembly and loading takes a minute. Had no problem with squirrels so far, chicadees love it, took them half a day to find out how to use it. It's on a multi feeder post, next to the seeds. With three suets in there, I don't think I'll need to touch it too often. It is sturdy enough, good materials and looks really nice. I am very happy with this purchase.

The chickadees š„ love it
Not one woodpecker has gone near it , itās hanging in the same spot as my previous open suet holder so not sure why they are not going to it, they are around they come to tree I do like the design , keeps it dry , like I said the chickadee love it which I donāt mind at all itās those starlings , and cackles and even the sparrow that ruin the suet so they arenāt coming so happy about that , they can feed from the bird feeders which I have plenty of for them .So overall quick delivery , good price , nice design , sturdy , so hopefully the wood peckers will find it soon.
