This book should be standard issue for all teens!
As someone who attended an adolescent ACT workshop I was aware of the buzz surrounding the release of this book. I had my copy on pre-order for quite some time. It was definitely worth the wait. Finally an accessible book aimed at addressing the trying time that is adolescence. Furthermore this is a book that I can actually envision a teen reading and taking seriously which is of course vitally important. The author(s) writing is informed not only from their leading research and clinical work but from their own personal experience. As a result the pages are filled with relatable examples and exercises. The writing and stories used to illustrate the common struggles associated with adolescence and the approaches and skills one can employ to increase psychological flexibility are excellent. I especially like the use of poignant quotes at the start of each chapter that serve to set the tone and underlie the wisdom of each chapter. This book I believe should be standard issue for all teens. Most definitely an essential text that should accompany all individuals as they traverse their teen years.

Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life for Teens
From page one I've been totally hooked! Literally already using it with adolescents and have tweaked some of the stuff just a tiny bit to make parts of it appropriate to use with adults--it brings everything down to the basic ACT principles in a way I haven't seen before. I'll use it as a workbook when I'm working with a willing teen, and when someone's not so willing at the outset, I can still use it to guide my interventions and treatment plan with them.I'm thrilled! Thanks so much to the authors for a substantive, user-friendly and engaging resource.

I read it first to see what i thought. I thought authors made a complicated clinical subject into a simplified guide of how the mind works and provided practical strategies to support the change in thinking needed to manage the stresses of teenage lifeMy 16 year old daughter is half way through it, and said she thinks it is good

Wonderful application for teens!
I am a school psychologist and so far have had positive responses with kids. This is a wonderful application of ACT geared towards teens. I found the book applicable, using real stories that my kids really related to. The book also uses a metaphor of a peaceful warrior, that works well with teens. The book uses empowering language that helps teens take responsibility for there own life. Offers effective strategies for managing difficult emotions.

This is a great therapy book to use in and out of session for adolescents. I love the worksheets that come along with the chapters. While I usually teach the ACT skill first and then go over the worksheets verbally, you can use the entire chapter with kids in session. Teaches ACT perfectly to kids and adolescents.

It works!
I am working through this book with my 10 year old son. He is a gifted boy with a tendency to get stuck in negative thoughts and emotions. This book presents Action Commitment Training (ACT) in an accessible and practical way. Although it is pitched at teens, my young son can recognise himself in the anecdotes and is using the techniques.

ACT for teens.
Louise Hayes has taken Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and made it very accessible for use with teenagers. Based on her experiences of working with troubled teens, Hayes has come up with suggestions that can be used to connect both professionals and parents with teens in new and exciting ways. The ideas are visual, fun and fresh.

Good for younger kids who are open to new ideas
I got this for my teenage niece. I had read the adult version and it was useful. This teen version is watered down and really cheesy. My niece hated it. She’s really smart and cynical and said she wouldn’t do this book. I bought her the adult one instead...

Excellent resource for my counselling office library
Excellent resource for my counselling office library. This series is always easily adaptable or I can pull out specific activities depending on need. I used these extensively in my junior high practice, and they are useful for my upper elementay practice too.

A useful guide
A useful guide (I used it as a clinician) and picks up on the issues of doing values-based work with teenagers and gives amended approaches. There are some nice vignettes, metaphors and examples to use with teens and families. Recommended for those who already know what they’re doing with ACT.
