A gift
This was a little gift for a daughter who loves art. When opened, she was delighted with it. Too earlyto say how good it is, so unable to report on that.

Inspiring read
Just the perfect gift for any female artist in your circle (male artists would benefit, too).

A wonderful book about women painters
This is the second book I have read about women in the arts by P.L. Henderson. She also writes a very important Twitter (X) account in which every day you get introduced to the work of women artists. In this new book, there are thematic and historic threads that tie women artists from different countries and generations. Each section is followed by interviews with contemporary artists who can connect their work to this historic or thematic information. This is a fascinating structure because it show a continuity between all these different artists that might otherwise be difficult to figure out on your own. I particularly liked the chapter titled “Still Lives.” It demonstrated that the way women were depicted in domestic spaces by themselves or by other artists including classic still life paintings and images of windows, mirrors, and motherhood. Don’t miss the end of that chapter with a discussion of the infamous 1968 “God Giving Birth” painting by Monica Sjoo.
